come across this copy, and has a date code UL1250...
looking at this site:

things don't match - L is for 1997, and the mk2 was released in 2011....
gets worse looking at pictures, but then the identification plate atop says II
color is of mk1, and many other identifiers look indeed to be mk1

where else other than Fleabay?

I don't see IS marked on anything, and 97 is right for the non-IS v2.

That appears to be an early "90's EF 400mm 2.8 ll, Pre-IS model.

Yes, non-IS version II. It weighs a ton but is razor sharp.

It was also the fastest focusing supertele in its day. I loved mine, but IS and weight reduction were reasons enough to upgrade.
