This was an amazing case of being at the right place at the right time which is what street photography is much about. I was walking down the street and noticed this fellow in costume. I quickly pulled my camera off my tripod and watched as Spidey climbed the light pole. There was another photographer next to me who had accompanied Spidey. We both shot as Spidey reached the top. Within 30 seconds, the scene was over with Spidey back on the pavement.

I rarely go into the CITY. When I do it always seems like a freak show. Take out the tourists, the office workers and those looking at cellphones waiting for buses and you have if not freaks at least a weird collection of people. Then there is Steve recording it.

NYC is a street photographer's paradise. Every corner holds interesting drama if you look for it. But as you say, it's a love-hate relationship living in NYC for many of the obvious reasons. But I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Appreciate your eye Allen. What amazed me when I looked closely at the photo was that none of the people on the street are looking up at Spidey. Almost like this scene is nothing out of the unusual.

Great capture Steve! What shows in this is that in NYC NOTHING is unusual. Maybe 1 person is looking(the man in the sunglasses walking toward you) otherwise everyone else is just moving along!

That maybe a bad thing in the present violence in the US. Just a comment Steve. Not a reflection on your post.

I do appreciate the excitement of the City, especially since my trips have been infrequent the past few years. I am past due for trips to the Met, MOMA, Whitney, the Highline, etc, etc. Exciting, but no way could I live there. I enjoy having a small archery range in my backyard, and studio spaces for myself and my wife.

Some great Museum exhibitions at the moment Jim: The Met (Photo exhibition of the Becher's of industrial buildings, Japanese Kimonos, Winslow Homer paintings, American Fashion exhibit, and much more), MOMA (Barbara Kruger painting exhibit, a Matisse exhibit-The Red Studio), Whitney (Biennial)... So come on in!

I was wondering if he had climbed the pole, or use a ladder (off screen) ... and if he was there for an extended period of time, or not.

Nice job of being responsive to the diminutive moment.
