The Sigma 56 was a lot of fun to shoot with, but the 50 is very under appreciated in the Fuji world.
The Sigma 56 is extremely sharp wide open and doesn’t really feel that heavy. The odd thing about the Sigma is that it gets a little bit softer at f/2.8 and then sharp again a little higher than that.
The Fuji 50 F/2 has better contrast, it is very sharp on its own, but it will not get you the lower light usage of the Sigma (you could argue the weight difference would make up for that), and the lens performs like you would expect a lens to perform, where it gets sharper in the center of the aperture range before giving way to diffraction.
Now the lens I find most surprising is the Fuji 50 F/1. It is the best 50 ish lens for the X-Mount. It is surprising to me, because a lot of reviewers were just meh on the lens when it launched. I ignored them and tried it anyway, when one of them came up available used. Yes it weighs a lot, but it has better low light than the Sigma 56 and all the character you would expect from a Fuji lens. You can see this in the first page of this thread, the post with the coke can and chihuahua in the image. I honestly had to create a custom setting just for this lens, to tame the contrast of it.
