Today Cosina announced a new lens for Fuji X mount: Voigtländer Macro Apo-Ultron 35/2:

It's a 1:2 Macro. Kind of a combination of CV 50/2 and 65/2 Macro APO-Lanthar but in APS-C. Perhaps they will release a Nikon Z version later on as well.

Official Japan price is 93000 JPY (excluding tax).

It's planned to be launched in August (no specific release date given yet).

Cosina seems to be working on making the X-E3 very attractive. Or is that just me?

It should be X-E4 as the electronic communications with these lenses only work with the more recent Fuji cameras (not supported with older X-E models). The thought about getting an X-E4 with one or more of these new CV X-mount lenses has crossed my mind too but I've resisted the urge so far as I already have lots of E-mount and VM CV glass for my Sony A7C.

The size and weight of X-E3 + any of the CV X-mount lenses is still appealing though and I think Cosina will keep releasing more X-mount glass since the ones they have released so far keep selling very well in Japan.

Interesting. I was not aware of the camera age being significant, but, with the exception of the niceties of EXIF, it's not like communication will give you much on these two. There's no IBIS to worry about and I doubt there will be any in-camera profiling. I picked the X-E3 because it still has a slight grip, built-in thumb grip, and control wheels front and back. So the already less expensive camera will require less accessorizing. If the 4 had IBIS, that would be my choice and I'd deal with buying a grip and thumps-up.

I'm impressed with Fuji's trajectory overall (I think they're on the verge of seeing a lot of renewed and new interest if they get their stacked-sensor implementations right) so I think Cosina was smart to do whatever they had to do to use the mount. I'm sure that will be a profitable decision for years to come.

Oh man I want one.. but I would actually prefer a 23mm f2 APO, hopefully they will make one eventually.

Cosina is really killing it the last couple of years - this is now the third lens on my ‚want to buy‘ list, next to the 50mm APO-Lanthar and 90mm APO-Skopar for the Nikon

Fuji to release 30mm f2,8 Macro XF later this year. Manual focus Macro lenses for closeup work preferable in my experience. Sold my Sony 90mm Macro AF prone to hunting; requiring tripod. Cosina Voigtlander spotting gaps in the market. The price advantage of CV 35mm f2 E compared to Sony 35mm f2 AF an easy decision to go with CV on my Sony A7RIII.

Note: CV lenses on XF mount more compact than CV lenses on Sony E mount. Compare CV 35mm lenses for Sony / Fuji.

There are really no apples to apples comparisons here. The closest is the Fuji 35 f/1.2 to the Sony 50 f/2 APO, but the Sony lens is a lot better corrected for aberrations, so still not an apples to apples comparison. In my view Cosina is doing a great job of building out a series of lenses for each mount and you really can't compare lenses across sensor sizes as they are building for each mount and there really aren't any similarly capable lenses yet.

I'm wondering how it would fare against the 33mm f1.4 WR at f2, as that lens is also very well corrected for longitudinal CA. The CV is ca 100g lighter and more compact though.

I have no Fuji cameras or lenses at the moment but I'm a big Cosina Voigtländer lens fan and I have lots of their lenses for Sony E-mount as well as for Leica M / LTM mounts. I think the CV lenses appeal mostly to those who love working with fully mechanical manual focus lenses (with benefits from electronic contacts).

The new Fuji f1.4 WR lenses easily compete with other recent high performance lenses, but are also in a similar class in terms of size and weight. Maybe beyond what some want from a Fuji system, which is another opportunity for CV to provide more compact options with equally high performance.

Agree regarding manual focus lenses - all these years I've wanted a digital version of the Nikon FM and now it seems CV will finally make it happen in both Nikon Z and Fuji X mount

Gosh this is tempting. I recently added a Sony A7c mainly because of missing my Voigtlanders too much. Still have an X-Pro3 and was thinking of letting it go. Now this?

I have started my Fuji X CV lens collection a couple of weeks ago with a 2nd hand (like new) X-S10 and a 2nd hand CV 23/1.2 (also like new but without original box). Expecting to get the brand new 27/2 on Wednesday. After that I may go for the 35/2 Apo-Ultron but will have to wait a while to recover my lens budget again.

There's quite good 2nd hand supply of the previously released CV X-mount lenses in Tokyo, I found the 23/1.2 at 59K yen (unusually good price for A rank lens) from Fujiya Camera earlier.

Waiting for Fred's test of this first Apo for Fuji. Let's hope.

Vougtlander should make more X-mount APO's - 23/2 and 50/2 or 60/2 + someday 16/2.
