Wow - another super image, Steve!
You sure got a lot of mileage out of your Glacier trip.
I usually do not find reservoirs very attractive due to the exposed banks/shoreline - it draws my eyes away from the scene behind it. However, in B&W, it is not an issue at all in this photo - it blends in so well with the water. You really opened my eyes with this one, Steve Thanks!
Let me know if you plan a trip back - maybe you'll let me meet up with you
Cheers
Doug
Thanks Doug! I have the same reservations about including reservoirs in landscape images. But I loved the light on the mountains behind it and couldn't get a composition that I wanted without including the reservoir. There was also a patch of blue in the sky that drew the eye away from the mountains. I'm low on the learning curve for B&W but my instincts were that rendering it this way would put the emphasis right where I wanted it without those distracting elements. I think it works well as a B&W and that has hopefully become more ingrained in my compositional instincts! And yes I will definitely be planning a return trip to Glacier NP and would love to get together for some shooting with you. The image you posted recently of Grinnell Lake is awesome! I'm envious of your access to Glacier! Thanks again! Steve
