I just got a used R. I'm very anxious try try it out, of course.

I've skimmed through the manual (somewhat quickly) Set everything up, but the shutter button does nothing.
I'm probably doing something really dumb, but right now I'm stumped:

Charged the battery
Put in a fresh card and formatted it.
Checked for the latest FW.
Connected my Meike lens adapter and a Zeiss EF lens.
Went to the menu and selected "clear all settings."
- note that the menu is definitely in "photo" mode at this point.
Set for manual focus and AV mode.
Set to shoot RAW.

Went outside, focused, pushed the shutter button... and nothing.

Any ideas?

I think you have to set it to shoot without a lens on some cameras? Might not be an issue on an EF lens though if it has contacts. You might look and try it though in case of an issue with the adapter or lens.

Donyou have a card in the camera? Is it formatted?

Oh..zeiss lens....there is a setting in the menu somewhere where you can set it to release the shutter with no lens. This is required for many 3rd party manual focus lenses.

Thanks, Brian, but I can't find this option.

There's an option for releasing the shutter with no card, which is enabled by default. (And why would you want that?)

Camera stores use that feature all the time! Not sure who else.
