I watched the butterfly laying this egg on a hebe flower bud head. Shots taken with 2 & 4 X microscope objectives and focus stacked.

Excellent find and capture Brian! I'm pretty sure I would not even see this.
Is that a single egg? Interesting... the net-like covering.

Brian,

Well done. I have seen the species on a holly leaf only once and never, anywhere, in the act of laying. I have just realised that, a resident in out garden each years, I haven't seen one for a while.

That egg must be one of the most beautiful.
