p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Carving a Canyon

Here's a few more Orderville Canyon photos showing how the creek snakes through the sandstone, carving a path as the narrows are deepened over time. Most are small waterfalls or cataracts but that last shot is a sudden narrow crack in the giant wall. C&C always welcome.

5. This one i like because the canyon is wider here but where does it go? It narrows suddenly into that crack in the middle of the wall. It's amazing.

Great shots! The third one is my favorite, but I can't put my finger on why.

Very nice, Gordon. It must have been quite the adventure going through that canyon.

Great feedback. This shot has good balance and symmetry.

Amen brother! Adventure with moments of serenity. It's fun to go from one to the other.

Very nice photography of a beautiful canyon! Were you hiking in the water most of the time?

thanks Dave. It does have some special challenges with 2 rappels and 6 swims (or at least deep water crossings). That's stuff you'll never forget.

Thanks David. Water walking/hiking/swimming was about 4-5 miles. The first 6 miles were dry. The whole canyon is about 11-12 miles to hike. Much of the water was just an inch deep but we did have to swim a couple times. I'll send a pic for illustration.

Here's where we had to drop and swim. It was about 8 feet deep here.

How do you get your camera equipment through those areas?

Sea to Summit waterproof bags. Load the camera in, seal it, then drop it into the water below. Then I jump in afterwards and tow it along. If you've done it enough times, it becomes automatic. My camera has not failed because of a waterproof problem yet.

Thanks. I'm glad to share some southwest slot canyon fun with everyone. Most of my explorations are solitary but this one ended up being quite a party of kids, nephews, nieces, co-workers and more.

Great shots. 45 years ago that was the trip that convinced me that desert hiking beat climbing down there.
