Coming from the 7DMkII and 5DsR the R7 is awkward to use i have medium size hands and the body feels too smal my pinky as nothing to hold to . I dont know how people with big hands can hold it comfortably ? . I think Canon could have done much better especially on the rear button layout . It will take time to get use to it

Francois.

The R7 is a great size for my medium-size hands and the button layout is fine once I get used to using my thumb on the back dial.

Does look a bit small and cramped with no BG option. But I've never held one so will reserve judgement until Tony lets me hold his

I have wide hands and find the R5 cramped. Is the R7 even worse?

I've only been using the R7 a couple days but find the controls easy to use—close enough to my 90D and 6D MK II I didn't have to adjust much. I suppose you prefer what you're used to but I have many cameras so I'm used to small changes. The QCD was a little strange at first but no problem after a session.

As for too small—we all knew it was a small camera at preorder—basically the size of a Rebel and is fine for me (medium hands). The R7 replaced my M6 which was too small for comfort. My only niggle is the EVF is a little low resolution and the camera has less button programming possibilities compared to some of my other cameras.

I wear XL gloves and it is a little small but totally usable. My pinky hangs off the bottom and I just fold it underneath. I actually like the dial/joystick configuration on the back. I just wish the power button was a dial and/or the bottom ring around the set button was a dial. But I really like the R5 layout so I'm a little biased. Just going to take some muscle memory to get used to.

Let your neighbor know that I'm willing to help relieve his pain and suffering by removing that horrible camera from his sight. And he'll have $900 USD to spend on anything he chooses.

Personally, I like the smaller bodies, as long as not too small for the lenses I plan to use. I go back and forth between the 5DIV and R5 already so had they stayed more similar it would have been nice, but I'm sure I'll adapt. If he dislikes it too much you could take it off his hands for you or Karen, then only need one more.

The lack of programing possibilities was a disappointment for me as well with the R5 after shooting Sony for a while. I'm sure it will be even more so with the R7. I wish Canon would change their options and be more flexible. If you've never shot another brand, you don't really realize some of the differences that are really pretty cool. None are absolutely perfect , just which things have more priority. For me it was all about the weight. Which includes the brands lenses.

Agreed….way too small. Would be fine if it had a grip.

Agreed. I knew my pinky would hang off of it. My biggest nit with it is the * button and the AF point selection button beneath it are not very well laid out and it is difficult to push the AF point selection button with my thumb. Coming from then early perfect R3, the R7 is not perfect, but honestly my criticisms are pretty minor. I think it’s a great value for what it is.

Just right size. Would defeat the purpose of having a smaller and lighter body for those that want one.

Size and weight matters to me a lot. The R5 is a little too fat for me personally. A slimmer body like the OM-1 would suit me perfectly. I have always used an Arca-style L-plate that covers the whole base of the camera (more elegant and seamless) and thereby increases the height of the camera by about 1/4" which solves the "dangling pinky" problem.

Yes exactly Canon missed on the size and the layout of the buttons. It is a good camera nevertheless.
