Looks like the Z30 has been announced, priced at $709.00.

No optional external EVF?
No IBIS (again!) ?
21 Mpix (again)? what's wrong with D7200 sensor?
Another product in the Nikon line-up to forget

Now that Z30 is out of the way, I hope Nikon will now put more attention on Z8, Z7/Z6 iii or whatever
camera with Z9 AF in smaller, lighter package than Z9

Not a vlogger so I have no interest in this Z30 and Z Fc is perfectly fine for me when I need something nice and light for casual shooting.

This is basically Nikons answer to the Sony ZV-E10, which I think was quite popular, just because it's not aimed at you doesn't exactly mean it won't sell. I will agree that they need to get on the third gen cameras and make a higher performance Z50 though also release that 85 1.2, because I honestly think that's my next Z lens...or 135 1.8 or 105 1.4, neither of which are on the road map.

It shares a lot of parts with Z50/Zfc so they can cut down development time & production costs.

Not sure why everybody asks for IBIS when it is bundled with VR lens.

EVF is essential for me on a sunny day but this is made for kids/vloggers.

Yeah, the Z equivalent to the D850 would be quite something.

It's also a streamer camera. Selfie screen and one cable connection set up. I honestly hope a few Twitch streamers pick it up.

It's not designed for you...
Price is about $700 US (no lens) and $850 w/ lens... I would buy it for impromptu travel/family picks and to leave in my bag to document my wildlife work.
The ergonomics match the Z50... which match the Z6/Z7, this makes for intuitive use.

To be clear, I want Nikon to make a replacement for the D500. I currently use a Z9 and would happily add a DX 24MP w/ Z9 capabilities to my bag. With that said, I think that there is a legitimate use opportunity for a camera like the Z30

Why is everyone asking for IBIS?

Because most of the lenses suitable for the Z DX cameras lack VR. Only the three kit zooms have it, the 28, 40 and 50 do not (and Nikon is marketing all 3 of those to DX users) nor do any of the Viltrox fast primes.

Plus the competition mostly has it today.

I'd suspect most that were interested already bought a Z fc, which has all the same basic features for streaming.

It will sell here, if only because you'll be able to find one easier than the Sony equivalent which can be hard to find right now. Unfortunately Sony just launched a trio of streamer-friendly lenses (11/1.8, 15/1.4 and a 10-something PZ) which is going to move their cameras.

Yeah Nikon really needs to get on the DX glass or pay Sigma to do it for them or something.

My expectation is that Nikon will starve Z DX for glass just like they did F DX for so many years, and then wonder why their lineup of quite nice little cameras doesn't sell while Fuji continues to snap up the majority of the APS-C market.

As Thom puts it - 'buzz buzz'

Yup. I always say if you're looking for crop sensor mirrorless you go buy a Fuji. I'm curious about a ZFC, but I'd probably rather just go buy an XPro 2/3 or something and buy a Fuji 23 1.4, 50 1.0, 90F2 and 16 1.4 and call it a day. I can buy a ZFC and stick my 50 1.2 on it, but that combo sounds like hand cancer from a balancing perspective.

There is one other good choice for APS-C, but it's spendy. Sony high-MP FF. Sony has the glass, but their APS-C bodies suck IMHO (aside from the streamer-special ZV-E10).

Best APS-C body I've owned is my A7RIV, and in a lot of ways I loved my old D800's as APS-C/APS-H bodies, shot a LOT with it in APS-C and 1.2x crop modes.

I like Fuji a lot, but I don't get along with their Blue rendering for landscape work.

If someone doesn't understand the value/appeal of this camera, you aren't remotely close to the target market.

This looks like a very solid option for the people that need/want a camera like this.

I still can't believe after all of these years Sony can't find a way to put an AF joystick on a rangefinder styled body. The cameras work and sell but ergonomically I find them to be a clusterf**k. I basically only even use crop mode on my A7RIV when I want more reach out of a lens.

So, is not the D500 equivalent...I guess if we want an action/sport mirrorless body, we have to get the Z9....hehehe

Yeah, the Sony brick cameras are ergonomic disasters. I had an A6300 for a bit and it was semi-adequate at best.

I use APS-C on the A7RIV fairly often, not just for reach but for most non-landscape uses where I don't want to deal with massive 61MP uncompressed RAW files. I consider it more of a great APS-C camera with FF when I need it than the other way around.

Of course, I actually prefer APS-C or m43 for day to day usage, I have an FF body mostly for landscape work and the fact that really good crop bodies come down to the OM-1 and Fuji's and if I'm spending that much a used A7RIV makes more sense to me for the same $$ since I don't use more than 10fps.

The Z7II would have worked as well if I'd been able to get a used one for used A7RIV money.

Yeah Nikon really needs to lower the price on the Z7II. The camera works, but at that price point it's got too much competition for the price and AF performance that it has. Was using it yesterday and it failed a simple walking shot like 3 times so I just ended up changing lenses and putting the 35 1.8 on the Z9 and it got it in one go. Nikon's at least getting there, but they really need to trickle down the Z9 AF tech ASAP.
