Nice Tern shots Gary. I like the diving shot (last one) best.

Appreciate that Dave. That's what I was going for the whole evening. This was the only one I got and it's a little too much cropping. Much harder than I thought it would be I found it next to impossible to track the diving bird. I could track the bird at the beginning of the dive no problem but as soon as I started firing the blackout of the D500 shutter prevented me from seeing what I was trying to shoot. Wondering if the Z9 or similar body would rectify this problem.

Gary - I do have some diving shots (taken w/A1) where I was able to track, however, a lot of them were from behind. I like the angle/perspective of your shot. Maybe it is a demonstrated need for a Z9 for you :-) .

It's a funny thing. I always felt the D500 was a very capable body, and it is. Most times the failures have more to do with user input than anything else. But the more I'm trying to push myself and my equipment the more obvious the limitations become. I feel at this point getting a diving shot of a bird this quick is just dumb luck as I'm trying to track it more or less blindly.
Great to see posts from the likes of you and also mitesh to show what's possible and give me something to shoot for.
Appreciate the input !
Gary
