My wife and I are going to Namibia and Botswana for three weeks. We will be driving in our own truck and will be visiting a number of national parks, skeleton coast, etc. I am a little confused about what combination of lenses to bring. For sure I will be bringing:
A1
A7R4
35 f1.4 GM - small walk around
17-28 Tamron - landscapes, etc
28-70 GMii
1.4x teleconverter
I am having difficulty deciding between:
100-400 GM and the 600mm F4
Or
70-200 GMii and 200-600 G
My first instinct was to go with the 100-400/600mm pair as the 100-400 is easy to hold and a great overall
lens and the 600mm f4 gm will be great when I need a long reach with not a lot of light. I do have some concerns that switching between eh 100-400 and the 600mm will not be as easy due to limited room in the truck cab and the 600 is a lot of lens to move around in the cab of the truck if we are not able to get out of the car. Also I am worried that if I am using the 600mm and the target moves closer to me I will have to go for the 100 400. I have no doubt that the 600mm F4 will be great at dusk or dawn.
With the 70-200 and 200-600 I am thinking the 200-600 will be great in the truck cab and I will be able to easily zoom in out as necessary when the subject moves. The 70-200 will be great for when the action is up close or the need for a big aperature presents itself.
Any thoughts or advice wouyld be appreciated.
Thank you,

OK, you're taking way too much gear, especially at the short end. Is your wife a photographer? If so, you'll need two long lenses because most of the interest will be wildlife. Leave the 1.4X home, you don't want to be changing lenses out in the filed (too much dust). Program one of the top buttons to switch to APS-C mode for a quick boost in focal length. Great choice for the two bodies. You need redundancy, gear fails in harsh situations (3 times for me).
I recommend this gear.
17-28mm Tamron
35mm f1.4
70-200 f2.8
100-400mm
200-600mm
BTW, my wife and I did Botswana about 10-yrs ago. She was not a photographer, but she used a 70-200mm on a Canon 7DII 100% of the time and got some remarkable images. We had a blast, and some of her photos are still hanging on the walls at our university. Enjoy your trip, and let us know how it went.
