So I went back out to Big Bronco to test the Sony 24mm G 2.8 against the zoom and to me the zoom looks better. The zoom is at 23mm

Bad news was it was cloudy and overcast so a little hard to see but at F4 the zoom looks better in the corners over the Prime which is a surprise but the 24mm is still good..

Very interesting. I'm not sure why you would choose to keep that particular prime, unless it's for purposes of travel with a light selection of primes, and no zooms.

Yea it was kinda tuned to the A7c but given the Zoom being as good as it is than I may get a 85 . Than I could go 16-35/50/85 and that is a nice kit for travel. I will probably wait till I get back home in a month and maybe tweek this. Im traveling to NY till August for a gig.

I do try weird things sometimes but hey its also fun

Yup, it's fun and it's also rewarding when finding a set of lenses and other things that can work well for a purpose. Thank you for the continuing sharing.
I'm about to go for a two week long trip to Portugal and I'll bring the following:

Domke Satchel bag junior

A7C
Sony PZ 16-35/4
Samyang 75/1.8
and a table tripod

there will be space for the passport and some other small things and also a Lectrosonics SPDR in case I want to get good sound to pair with a short clip or two.

Everything will be easy to access and the total weight low enough for my tired shoulders.
I am a little excited about the PZ 16-35/4. It was years ago I had a WA zoom in this range.

I was thinking something very similar. I'm a fan of traveling with a minimal number of lenses, and taking no more than one or two out on a given day. The PZ 16-35 is a range that I can sometimes use as "one & done", since with the A7RIV, I can punch it out to 52mm at 26mp in crop mode, which makes it super versatile.

Perhaps eliminates the need for the 55 (small, light and good), except for indoor low light scenes. And even at that, I'm comfortable raising the ISO and using something such as Topaz Denoise AI to strip away the noise.

So I could be quite happy with the PZ wide zoom and the 85/1.8. Or the 55 on a given day, depending on the situation.

Been following you here since I started with Sony in 2018 and appreciate your input and experience.

I had the 16-35 GM, but never really loved the pictures for some reason (not technical, they just didn’t pop to me or feel sharp like all my other lens-Tamron 35-150, 100-400gm, 200-600- different lens but they all felt super sharp). So I didn’t use it much and ultimately sold it.
So now I’m back looking for a wider angle lens and I DID really like the range of the 16-35. Are images from this new lens different or better than the older GM? Or is your interest because it’s smaller, less expensive and lighter?

I think it’s better than any of the older models myself. For a zoom it has some nice rendering. Maybe not the best bokeh than any of the primes but I do think it’s better than the 12-24 f4 for sure. Much better than the old 16-35 f4 and little trick here you can forget it’s a PZ because you still have a zoom ring. So if that bugs you than really it’s a normal style zoom

Small and light is the bonus. For travel/street and such it’s great. I’m putting it on stage in a few weeks for awards stuff. So I will see how it does in those conditions as well. I’m heading for NYC on Tuesday so i will see what I can do with it more.

Bottom line it seems to be pretty competent and I’m going to sell my 24 g 2.8 since I don’t need it given this zoom. So I’ll sell that and maybe get a longer lens
