PureRaw is incredible, I was never going to shoot over ISO 3200 on the R7 or many other cameras for wildlife, maybe ISO 6400 on the R6, but with PureRAW I saved an ISO12800 photo with the R7 that turned out quite good.

How the 600mm f4 behaves with the R7? Thanks!

Not a common visitor on my walks though it was a lovely sight watching this BKF hunting crickets from a ditch. The R7 is performing up to task with the AED off for BIF.

EOS R7 and EF 35 2.0 IS USM | 1/200, F8, ISO 100 | Shot through a wire fence with moderate trade winds. The AI servo with tracking did a great job of keeping the flower in focus while it danced in the wind.

Based upon what i can see in this thread the R7 looks like it's performing very well, nice sharp photos. Obviously noise reduced but still they do look very good!

What about the electronic shutter, is anyone using it or are you all using the mechanical shutter?

I use it over 95% of the time. Why wouldn't I?

I use it for everything apart from when rolling shutter would spoil a shot, like insects with rapidly beating wings.

And at 30fps you will often get several shots from a burst where the effect is not noticeable.

I wish. I think that only works indoors here!

Thanks for your quick replies guys, i'm considering adding a R7 later on and the rolling shutter issues troubles me a bit. What about video, is it a big issue with video as it could be when shooting stills at 30fps?

While rolling shutter is regrettable, it is somewhat to be expected for a camera at this price point. And to be fair, the R7 can do 15 frames per second just with the mechanical shutter.

A potentially bigger issue, I feel, is the shutter shock that is present in 'H+' mode with either the mechanical shutter or EFCS.

Oddly enough, in my testing, shutter shock manifested in 'H+' mode even when the actual framerate was far lower than the maximum 15 frames per second. Yet a comparable burst in 'H' mode at similar framerates showed no shutter shock.

So while you are safe choosing this drive mode when your shutter speed is sufficiently high to mask the effect, if the shutter speed ever falls below a certain threshold you will see blurring in the second and subsequent frames in a burst.

This all means that you have to manage both your shutter modes and drive modes fairly carefully with this camera.

Not trying to diss on the R7, but I think it is worth knowing about these issues before buying.

Hmm, that's interesting reading Gary. Thanks a lot! i didn't think about shutter shock until you mentioned it now and that could be a pretty big issue when shooting at 15fps with the mechanical shutter. I think i'm going to wait and see what new Canon plan on releasing in the coming months while i try to find money for the camera.

Thanks all, sorry for hijacking your photo thread a little. Now post some beautiful photos again!

/ Magnus

Works on sea shells and beach pebbles too. I've used it with an ultra wide to get close-ups of beach sculptures and background all in focus. Unlike the M6II the R7 shoots at 30 fps and builds a composite as well as saving the individual images. Probably my favorite mirrorless feature.

This is why the R7 is a lot of fun to play with. Although the light is poor today, shooting at an effective FL of 1120mm and then cropped about 50%
