You are right, in the super telephoto range Sony hasn’t done anything since the 200-600 G / 600 GM releases 3 years ago but they have been building up in every other lens segment to the point where it’s nearly complete.
That being said emount does need more super telephoto options and personally I’d like to see but fully acknowledge its doubtful all of the below will happen.
Sony
300mm f2.8
400mm f4 or 4.5
800 6.3
Sigma
500mm 5.6
800mm 7.1
Also, and this is because it personally affects me, the gap between the 200-600G and the 600GM is too big, with the latter being literally too big and far too expensive for my liking. Sony should really concentrate on bridging this wide gap, by offering something inbetween, like Nikon is now doing.
It could be a 600mm f5.6 or a 500mm f4.5 with diffractive optics or not, and of course Sony does not háve to do it if they are reluctant, but I see Sony wildlife/birding shooters moving towards Nikon if they do not, except perhaps for the high end shooters that won't have any reason unless they want to add a portable high quality option to the 400/600GM.
I have the A1+200-600, and prefer the A1 over the Z9 by miles, but still I am looking sideways to the Nikon PF lenses. A 7000,- 800PF is so much better regarding price, size and weight than a 600GM+1.4TC, and still has high level prime quality.
