I had two days in Juneau, AK, and I was very excited to photograph this Black Bear!

Taken with the Nikon Z9 and Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS Lens with Sony FE 1.4x TC on the ETZ21 (EXIF data is incorrect).

Nice images. How did the AF of the 200-600 perform on the Z9. I have ordered my adapter and also am keen to see how this lens performs.

For the most part, I’ve been able to pretend that it’s a native lens. Works very well!

Great to hear. As much as I love the 500 PF sometimes a zoom is the better choice and I know my 200-600 is a fantastic lens.

Both photos seem to have missed focus, the 2nd worse than the first. Was this using AF or manual? Could just be web resolution making it hard to tell.

It will be interesting to see some action images. These are OK.

Fantastic subjects, but both photos look OOF to my eye. Hard to say if the camera missed focus due to the adapter or if it's something on the processing side. F13 is getting into diffraction territory as well which isn't helping - you may want to try stay closer to F9-F10 on that body.

It does not look like an out of focus issue to me, more like an overall slight but noticeable blur. I would go with either atmospheric induced blur, diffraction blur or slight motion blur, or otherwise simply a property of the specific lens.
I get the out of focus issue now and then with the 200-600G on the A1, but I would expect to be able to see where the plane of in-focus is in the grass in the second image.

Yes, atmospheric induced blur. Definitely not my sharpest set of images, it was the dead middle of the day. And also I had to downsize the images to 1 MP for size requirements on FM.

That is entirely possible, I have experienced the same kind of atmospheric induced blur with this lens on the A1. Perhaps "atmospheric induced" isn't even a correct description for a sensitivity to strong light from the sun high up, and especially at a slight angle. But the look is familiar. In contrast: in very early morning hours this particular kind of blur is completely absent.

I, and many others, post 5K and up res photos on FM. Just use the frame tag to make sure they dynamically resize!

Low res, straight OOF, and haze all look pretty similar which is why I was giving these the benefit of the doubt.

As it stands, I’m not sure they are a good example of adapting E to Z, but a great subject regardless.

I just happened to be using the ETZ haha. If the subject wasn’t a bear or some lifer species, I probably would not have saved the pictures.

i'm looking at the other images with this combo from Nikon1960's upload pages and i don't see a lot of sharpness. also, i'm sure the TC doesn't help either.

I am guessing the TC should not be used with this combo. It's enough to try and get the 200-600 adapted to the Z9 as it is, but the TC I think has pressed it's luck here.

If shot without the TC and the results are like the images posted here, I would not waste my time with this lens adapted. I will wait to see some samples of this combo without the TC and decide from there.
