p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Fight!

This was Friday at Nickerson Beach, a super hot day here in the New York Metro area. The sun was starting to go down and Metish and I were both standing in the cold water and that felt great. We don't know why yet this fight broke out. All images are cropped from about 1/4 frame. I'm showing the important frames in this two part post.

Comments and suggestions welcome,

Morris

1) We join the fight in progress

2) The adult backs off and takes to the air

3) And then charges the juvenile

4) Beaks tangle and they go down into the surf as a wave broke on them

5) Wings tangle

6) And then they separate. Round 2 will follow

Wow that is some excellent surf action and bird action Morris. That is funny that the wave crashed them both out

Great light and exposure and bird poses, all good nice job!

7) The warriors squawk at each other

8) They have moved to shallower water and the adult flies over the juvenile

9) The adult if hovering over the juvenile that appears to have lost track of it while a wave approaches

10) They both react to the wave

11) Running from the wave

12) The juvenile gets a surprise

13) The adult lands on the juvenile

14) The adult kicked off and rolled the juvenile over who got the Maytag treatment. That was the end

A little after the fight ended, the juvenile walked up to us and looked at us as if asking for sympathy. The adult was no ware in sight.

Thank you Karl,

Yes it was funny to see the wave break up the fight yet it did continue. I was standing behind my tripod with the waves reaching my knees. When that wave passed us, it doge holes around my tripod legs and I had to replant it. Mitish was kneeling making the waves more challenging for him.

Morris these are just wonderful, their actions, the breaking surf have me greatly missing the ocean beaches. Too funny when the surf wins!

These are amazing shots Morris ! The crashing waves really add to the intensity. Very nicely done.

The camera maintained focus, I had to maintain my footing with the waves digging the sand out from all five feet.

I've grown up with our Atlantic beaches and love all sorts of things about them. I still enjoy playing in 12 foot waves yet can't do it all day any more
