Indeed. And this model with multishot even more so. I understand it was standard issue in museums and galleries for reproduction work. I used it for scanning negatives and results were as good as the Howtek 4500 drum scanner it replaced. Extremely quirky but incredible reference level captures.

Multi-shot = pixel shift, so the color channels don't have to be interpolated, right?

That's right. 4-shot gives you the non-interpolated color fidelity and 16-shot adds resolution. This was before it trickled down to current consumer cameras. But I still much prefer the output quality of this large sensor CCD. Much better tonality and more aesthetic capture of film grain without grit, IMO. I just prefer a CCD image in general, more natural color and better acuity; much closer to film look than CMOS. A very deep rabbit hole this was for me...

How does the multi-shot work? Does it capture one channel at a time? my understanding of pixelshift is that the sensor is literally moving behind the lens.. but the provided photograph of the sinar looks (possibly?) like a 6x7 negative..

It's the same as Sony's pixel-shift (expose entire sensor, shift by one pixel, expose again, ...), except this sensor is 49mmx37mm. Larger than the GFX100.

And half-pixel shift for the 16-shot so resolution is quadrupled. One interesting aspect of pixel-shift is not only fidelity of color but also resolution. The difference between the same 22MP resolution image from single shot vs pixel-shift can look as drastic as a plastic lens Holga vs a high-end macro lens, respectively. Smearing of detail from Bayer filter is not subtle. Not a big deal for snapshots, but a disaster for scanning as grain turns to one big blur.

Unfortunately not. It's only to show valid exposure.

Polaroid film yes. The back I'd prefer keeping with the system as I know everything works well together.

I was asked for sample images from Sinarback, so here are a couple for fun. These were shot on film with the RZ and then scanned with the Sinarback. Last image is a 100% crop of the first. Quite a bit gets lost in web translation, but hopefully you get the idea.

Thanks for your reply. I was trying to reply to the PM. However it took me some time to realise that i have to be a paid member to reply. Its a little bit different coming from photrio.

Is it possible to use Sinar 54H on the field? Is it possible to trigger the flash with Sinar 54H? I came across about a mask for 54H to give accurate field of view. Do you have the mask? When using with RZ will I need a secondary shutter? Is the multishot combined into single photo automatically after taking picture or does it give 16 photos which needs to be combined manually? What is the writing time for the photos? ie How long should I wait before taking the next shot?( For 1 shot and multishot)
Is the film back RZ professional I or II?
