This set consists of barbet images from the last two visits to Ecuador. I realize that I barely scratched the surface with these images but I have to start somewhere.
Although the red-headed barbet is quite photogenic and I believe that one of the characters of the game “Angry Birds” was derived from this male barbet. Unfortunately, the female is less imposing but hey, she is still lovely.
My favorite though is the toucan barbet. It makes clacking sound and its appearance and behavior remind me of those of a clown. It rains a lot and virtually everyday there. And these guys, 2-3 of them when I witnessed, just stayed perched as if they were enjoying the rain, maybe they do. I was a tad too greedy in composing a take-off scenario without much breathing room or maybe, I was too slow. I ended up with only the lower half of the bird in the next frame .
The smallest barbet I encountered is also one the most colorful ones, the lemon-throated barbet I the last 2 images. Both images of this guy are heavy crops. Fortunately, the high MP sensor helped a lot there.
Thank you for stopping by and please feel free to leave any feedback,
Joshua
