interesting. i already have the box sealed and ready to go by the time i saw your post so i am not able to see the bubbles. to be honest though i wasn't curious about how it failed. i'm just more annoyed by how fragile it is. i haven't even used the adapter that much to fail this quickly. now on top of that me paying to get a replacement? man, this replacement better last longer.

I sent it back and per my correspondence with Megadap (Kevin) he said they will pay for the replacement shipping. so i sent him the receipt for what i paid for shipping the defective adapter. will update if they actually reimburse me on the shipping and how long it will take to get the replacement.

For me it is a game changer as the focusing is way more reliable than my Commlite E1.
I can now use it un AF-C if lighting is good enough, otherwise AF-S is good enough if AF-C hunts a bit.

Here with the 50 1.2GM. I also use it a lot with the Sigma 35 1.2 DG DN

There are a few tests of ETZ21 on Zfc, Z7ii and Z9, all with footage showing the actual performance of the lens and cameras combo. Over 20+ lenses have been tested in the tests below.

In addition, I have tried the Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8 on my Z6. The AF and custom functions are fully functional, and the manual focus has no lag like a DSLR lens thanks to its linear focus motor.

I am thinking of buying the new Tamron 50-400 and adapt it on my camera, but would like to know more about the long-term usability or durability of the adapter.

Does the Megadap ETZ21 adapter apply Sony FE lens correction on the Nikon Z9? Does the adapter correct aberration, distortion, vignette, etc....

I had a borrowed lens sigma 35mm 1.2 sony E and tested it on nikon Z7 with megadap etz21 (fw 2.1)
for portrait AFS/AFC, eye detection ON. It was amazaing, super fast focus in low light in a dense forest.
I had two problems. with the camera turned off, my battery died in one day. And second quite substantial problem, when I set the aperture to 1.2 on the lens, the camera said 1.3. I had the lens for 2 weeks and always only F1.3 could be set. I wrote to megadap and they want a video that I don't have a way to shoot anymore. I wanted to buy that lens, but now I'm hesitating.
where could be the problem? Z7? ETZ? or Lens?

FWIW I briefly tested the Megadap with my SEL200-600 on a Z9 and felt that it worked surprisingly well. As soon as I got it I updated to the latest firmware. I didn't notice a battery drainage issue. Unfortunately I don't have any points of reference as I don't own any native Z lenses. I would always recommend using a native lens but if this seems like a decent option in a pinch. That said, I wouldn't want to have to depend on it -- too many potential points of failure and I'm not sure how robust it is over the long haul.

Sounds like you haven't used it a lot yet but your comment is appreciated....

Are the points of failure you mention, unique to the megadap or just any adapter in general ?

Besides the 'conversion' that takes place in any adapter, I guess that during that process, the adapter would introduce multiple points of failure or at least small issues that may or may not be noticeable to the end user.. And each lens would probably have different 'issues' .

So, is there anything else specific you can provide ??

Ok so I noticed that with 1.2 lenses. When you turn the physical aperture ring to 1.2 the displays shows 1.3. But if You put the ring on "A" automatic, your camera is able to go to 1.2

i can no longer recommend this adapter. as far as technology is concerned, it works...in fact in my experience it works just like a Nikon native Z lens. as i mentioned in this thread, this adapter died after a handful of light use (along with other users...so it's not an isolated case, and it looks like the rate of failure is a bit high considering there's not a lot of users of this product).

my biggest issue here is support; they only accept warranty if it's purchased directly from them (it's available from US stores like B&H but AFAIK they don't honor warranty support from those purchases)...which is in Hong Kong. they replaced my adapter with no issue but it's a long wait, and i needed to send it back _on my dime_ and it should be with tracking information... From NJ, it's about USD 60 to send it to them via the US post office. So basically it's an awesome albeit brittle piece of technology and will need to spend USD 60 every time it breaks assuming it's under warranty? It may be OK with you, but not to me.

It's reasonably "substantial" and heavier than you'd think given the 2mm thickness. I was looking closely at the electrical contacts and they look "OK", but there are electronics near the surface so you need to handle it carefully. It was a snug fit to both the camera and lens, which was good -- just a tiny amount of play in the rotation on the 200-600 (which could be the fault of the lens).

I was using it mainly for video and observed what others noted -- that zooming quickly was problematic as the AF couldn't keep up unless you zoomed very slowly. Otherwise I didn't get the impression it was holding the camera back, though as I said I had no point of reference.

So it worked well enough for me the brief time I tested it and would have kept it except I decided not to buy the Z9.

Bummer this thing seems to be so fragile.

Just for grins and giggles, I calculated the shipping expenses different ways. Without having the actual box in hand to check fitment...

If the box will fit in a Priority Mail padded flat rate envelope, the cost to ship to HK is currently $40.85. Priority Mail Express International Flat Rate (different envelope) is $70.95. Comes with up to $200 of insurance included. Bumping it up to $300 should add about $11. A padded flat rate bag will fit a 2XL hoodie so that's why I picked that.

in an 8 x 8 x 8 inch box, weighing a total of 12 ounces for the package, I'm seeing $54.10 for Priority Mail International, and $67.50 for Priority Mail Express International.

Sam experience. Both of mine failed within a matter of days. Attempting to hook them up to my laptop for a firmware reset resulted in zero communication and an *extremely* hot adapter.
