i experienced overnight battery drain with Sigma 14-24 DG DN mounted via ETZ21 on Z9.

However, I did not experience battery drain with any of the Sony lenses mounted via ETZ21 on Z9.

Megadap customer service is next to worthless. The FW updates do not do anything...

I have the Z6 and I have the same problem as you. Per Megadap the problem have been fixed...but I don't think so. Turn off the camera IBIS when you are done for the day and the problem is solved...at least in my case.

Oh that's sad to hear (about their customer service).
I usually take it off the camera before storing it overnight, so I have not noticed an issue yet.
I'll test it on a couple of Sony lenses today though, to see if the battery drain affects native Sony lenses.

Hi all,

Probably a stupid question, but has anyone tried the ETZ21 with an on-camera flash?
I'm particularly interested to know if these work at all and if so, can we engage the iTTL and Sync modes?

What's the current state of this? Would love to pull the trigger but hearing SO many conflicting things on this lol...

I mostly just want it for the Zony 55, Sigma macro lens, the the FE 85.

Each one would work fine for a few days. Then randomly I would turn on the cam and hear a click. Suddenly the adapter wasn’t allowing communication between the lens and body. Firmware was up to date etc. one of the copies wouldn’t even connect to the computer it just got really hot.

That is really disturbing to hear. Sounds like gambling not buying from a dealer with good return policy.

Megadap was actually really good about communicating with me and trying to figure out the problem. My theory is that I just happened to receive a few copies from a bad batch bh received. I read somebody else got a few bad ones from bh but their adorama copy worked so that might be a good way to go. Their return policy is solid.

So sounds like maybe this iteration isn't the one for me...but lots of really promising data on this. Pretty cool nonetheless!

Techart has advised against stacking TZM-01 and TZE-01, so I expect that means it doesn't work (or performs badly).

Short feedback on the Sony Fe 14mm f1.8 on z7 II after my holidays and a few hundred real life photos. No problems with AF. It is fast and reliable. The focal length (14mm) shows correct in the exif. All in all, a very enjoyable, compact package with many options (low light photography, subject separation, great optical performance and superb sunstars)

I have the megadap adapter on my b&h basket, then I thought I browse this thread.

It does not look too good.Too many failures for a small sample.

Maybe I should go with the techArtPro adapter instead.

Not sure if the Sony glass I am seeing in this thread is sharper than the corresponding nikon glass or I am just imagining.

If sharpness is your goal, just get the Z glass...I don't think sharpness is the point of the adapter at all. more about character or lenses, focal length, etc

I have the Nikon Z 50mm 1.2s,The Sony 50mm images in this thread looks sharper than the Nikon. I think it is even sharper on the Z6 than when on Sony cameras

I lack wide angle primes.
I am looking for the voigtlander 21 mm F/1.4. I have seen images of E mount voigtlander on Z cameras, they look superb

Bottom line, the reason getting an E to Z smart adapter is the expanded selection of lenses.

I bought the Techart TZE-01 adapter primarily for the Sigma 105mm Macro Art which outperforms the otherwise excellent MC Nikkor at 1:1. In addition, the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DN Art is close enough that it could be labeled apochromatic (which is quite rare for an f/1.4 lens).

Your feeling seems to be validated by LensTip MTF tests.
Although the Nikkor Z 50/1.2 S was tested on Z7 while the 50/1.2 GM was tested using the Sony A7R III, and therefore MTF figures can't be directly compared, however I think we can infer that the Sony lens shows better performance at the wider apertures, at least at the target distance used for those tests. The Sony lens is also lighter (778 g vs 1090 g) and smaller (108x87 mm vs 150x89.5 mm).
