Hope it's a BSI sensor like the R3. I don't want a ballooned-up version of the R5 with baked-in noise reduction at low ISOs.

I wonder if it will get treated like the 5Ds and 5Dsr were? Basically ignored and left to rot by Canon?

Just saw that rumor. It will be very interesting to see what it looks like when it arrives — the cost, the actual MP, how its general performance is (e.g. what does it give up to the R5 in terms of speed, high ISO, etc.).

That will be a major decision point for me. Rather than moving to the R5 I have continued to use my 5DsR. Yes, the R5 is "better," but not in ways that made me want to jump to it when the camera I have works really well.

In the back of my mind I realize that this is a time to look more widely at options than would typically be the case. When one has a bunch of EF lenses, updating a camera body doesn't entail thoughts about looking at the entire system. But when moving to a very different camera with a new mount system, the potential costs of the update become a lot greater. While one could just keep using the EF lenses, that seems to make the move to R less valuable overall — so I'd be planning on replacing most or all lenses as well.

And, if one is considering such a comprehensive upgrade...

... it is the perfect time to consider a wider range of options including non-Canon solutions. Would the Fujifilm GFX system make sense? (There are issues with lens availability and speed, but the IQ potential is excellent. If I were Fujifilm, I'd be pushing out some additional lenses to fill the gaps compared to FF offerings.) Perhaps Sony will have something competitive, and their lens line-up is now pretty darned good. (Nikon isn't on my radar at this point.)

So... interesting times may be coming for those of us who rely on the high MP systems.

I used my 5Ds for everything, or at least I did until six months ago when I got an R5. Now it's my backup.
Many are so concerned with specs, ergonomics, blah blah blah! If only they were as concerned with their photography!!
Remember when DXO came out? Cameras lived and died by those ratings. Suddenly Dynamic range was way more important than composition!!!
I'd WELCOME any 100mp Canon no matter how sh*tty it is. It will WAY improve my photographic results!

Not sure what this means. Mine's not all that ripe any more, but it's nowhere near rotten.

"seems to make the move to R less valuable overall"
Can you explain how you have managed to come to this conclusion? As an RF mount user, I've actually come to the completely opposite conclusion.
I myself and most everyone else that have EF lenses have been super happy using nothing but EF glass on the R bodies. We appreciate and enjoy how they seem to perform even better then they did with DSLR's. For me, other then simple GAS wanting a new shiny lens, there doesn't appear to be any compelling reason to spend money on any of the current RF glass to date, especially in the landscape arena.

You mainly shoot landscape work if I'm not mistaken, which would be why most folks like yourself would want such a high MP monster.
Can you point to any of the current RF lenses and tell me how any of them will measurably improve your work over your current EF glass to justify the expense?

It is possible to be "concerned" about both.

I'd WELCOME any 100mp Canon no matter how sh*tty it is. It will WAY improve my photographic results!

Huh? And are you OK?

"How" I came to this conclusion? Hmmm...

By considering many options and thinking about it carefully over a long period of time?

A R5s with 100mps in 1.6x crop mode would be about 35mps. I'll take this over a R7.

What is meant by ignored? The 5Ds/R were on the market for 5+ years.

I hope it will shoot at 30fps. I would love culling and storing those little files.

More megapixels does not equate to better images. Remember lighting, subject matter, composition, etc., etc.

At some point, I wonder when we will reach the limit on how many pixels it is worth trying to get into a FF body. The fuji GFX or some other system with a larger sensor seems a better vehicle. It will be interesting to see some full blown reviews of the R7 as it should give us an idea of how a 100mp FF will perform.

Glad they're evolving. I don't need this kind of resolution, but it'll be good for those who do.

There will be a minority of buyers who will get significant, practical use of it, and a majority of buyers who believe that more is always better but will reduce their mega files to jpegs for posting on-line where no one can discern the difference in image quality from that of a 32MP R7.

83mp rumored to be out in a year 2-3 years ago. 32mp aps pixel density on ff. So I'm not holding my breath, but really you kinda need 80-100mp to get a real gain past 45-50. So more of a logical progression.

If you consider that some phone camera sensors are quite high now in MP count, it leaves a lot of room for growth. Is the pixel level quality of those sensors as good as 'real' cameras? I guess not. But using that many pixels to oversample should be generally superior to images directly from lower resolution sensors with bigger pixels. Also consider that Canon's sensors are dual-pixel. So ~80MP FF equivalent would really be ~160. Likely we'll see quad-pixel AF systems now that Olympus has it at 20MP (so 80M pixels) in m43 size. IMO there are good reasons for much higher pixel counts, though it's quite possible that final 'native' output from cameras will be lower due to oversampling.

Not really necessary to wait to see R7 image quality because that sensor already exists for the most part in the 90D/M6II. Having used both of those, I thought image quality was good and when there were problems, it was usually the lenses. For example, using the 70-200/4L IS handheld at somewhat marginal 1/focal length shutter speeds, I noted across-frame sharpness inconsistencies likely due to IS movement during exposure. This was something I never noticed with the same lens on a ~20MP FF sensor camera. The only other thing I didn't like, which I believe I mentioned in another post, was high-ISO color quality. It looked weak and waxy due to the amount of NR.

Why is this rumor any more believable than the countless others there have been in the 7 years since the 5DsR was released?

Wasn't the 5DsR -II seen being tested in the field around 2018?

Anyone wanna buy a bridge?
