Just saw that rumor. It will be very interesting to see what it looks like when it arrives — the cost, the actual MP, how its general performance is (e.g. what does it give up to the R5 in terms of speed, high ISO, etc.).
That will be a major decision point for me. Rather than moving to the R5 I have continued to use my 5DsR. Yes, the R5 is "better," but not in ways that made me want to jump to it when the camera I have works really well.
In the back of my mind I realize that this is a time to look more widely at options than would typically be the case. When one has a bunch of EF lenses, updating a camera body doesn't entail thoughts about looking at the entire system. But when moving to a very different camera with a new mount system, the potential costs of the update become a lot greater. While one could just keep using the EF lenses, that seems to make the move to R less valuable overall — so I'd be planning on replacing most or all lenses as well.
And, if one is considering such a comprehensive upgrade...
... it is the perfect time to consider a wider range of options including non-Canon solutions. Would the Fujifilm GFX system make sense? (There are issues with lens availability and speed, but the IQ potential is excellent. If I were Fujifilm, I'd be pushing out some additional lenses to fill the gaps compared to FF offerings.) Perhaps Sony will have something competitive, and their lens line-up is now pretty darned good. (Nikon isn't on my radar at this point.)
So... interesting times may be coming for those of us who rely on the high MP systems.
