I'm intrigued by the images possible from the Laowa 15mm f4 Macro lens, which has a 1:1 magnification -- though a very short working distance. Is there any way a Sony 14mm f1.8 GM could be altered to shoot macro with these characteristics? Or does that kind of magnification require an entirely different build?

(And speaking of extension tubes, can anyone recommend E-mount ones that are longer than 16mm -- ideally with AF?)

It can be done with extension tubes but you may find that the focus will move to inside the lens. This has only just been avoided by the design of the Laowa.

Is there any way to calculate it in advance? Also interested to see whether this could be done with a Voigtlander Heliar 15.

This may help:

Several years ago I experimented with a wide angle lens on extensions.

Nikon 28mm f/2.8 AI-s

The lens with no extension, at its closest focus, has a working distance of 4"/100mm*. The FOV is 150mm wide.

With 12mm ext FOV is 57mm

With 20mm ext FOV is 40mm

With 32mm ext FOV is 28mm, WD ca 30mm without a hood.

FOV is field of view, WD is working distance without a hood.

* Unusually close for a non-macro 28mm, which is why I bought it.
