p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · lens covers for long lenses

With regard to long lenses, 400mm and larger, has anyone used a light colored or camouflaged lens cover found that they reduce the temperature of the lens as opposed to not using one?

The lens will reach 'ambient temperature' whether it's covered, or not. Covers might help to reduce the additional heat load from radiated sunlight, when it's in the direct sun, but I haven't noticed. Hot is hot.

A current thread on the Canon forum is discussing lens covers, ATM.

Camo lens tape for zooms.... (100-400 IS II), https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1757733/0#15949874

My covers are shown in that thread, https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1757733/1#15952503

The two main reasons that I use covers on my big lenses are:

1. It helps prevent scratches on the paint, when putting it down on nasty ground (gravel, etc.), and

2. It's easier on the bare hands when it's really hot, or really cold (and you're using bare hands).
