Nothing in this list seems like a compelling reason for me to spend thousands of dollars to upgrade from the A7R4. If this rumor is true, it will probably cement my decision to go to Fuji GFX.

I know most people don't care, but I was waiting and hoping for more resolution (and focus stacking). I'll take all the pixels I can reasonably afford, for printing, software perspective control, and fewer aliasing artifacts. We know Sony has a higher rez sensor; I wonder what they plan to do with it, and when?

If I were guessing, I'd say they will use the 100MP sensor when the next generation or two of processing chips come out that can, with no increased power consumption, handle the throughput better than the current generation A7r4 which, while fine, is feeling a little sluggish operationally compared to the A1 and A74. The ancillary electronics in the A74 and A1 would probably, when combined with the 100MP chip, give similar operational smoothness to the current A7r4.

You may prefer 100MP with that trade-off, and many other people would too, but I'm guessing Sony would assume that people would say it was a step backwards. So it may be a few years yet before we see 100mp in an FF body (and if the rumour of Sony developing medium format are true, they may never do that!)

Or, of course, the rumour is wrong and so am I and the r5 will be 100MP!

I wonder if they hold off on releasing the A7RV until they fix the A7IV eye AF issue...

Huh? I thought they already fixed that per firmware?

The rumors of the Canon 100 MP body seems to be picking up steam again. Will be interesting to see what the next Sony higher resolution body will be.

Not really, no - by Dpreview:

"Firmware V1.01 for the Sony a7 IV included the promise that it ‘improves the accuracy of the Eye AF feature.’ Since this was one of the criticisms that held back the score of our review, we re-tested the camera to see whether the tendency to fractionally front-focus in eye AF mode has been resolved.

We confirmed with Sony that the update was intended to address Eye AF however it was activated; whether by assigning a button to the function or through its automatic use when ‘Face/Eye Priority in AF’ is turned on.’

Having tested the camera with multiple subjects and a number of lenses, we found the eye AF function can still tend to focus on eyelashes, rather than the subject’s pupil. It’s something you’ll only tend to see when shooting at fairly wide apertures but we still found we could get better results with manual focus.

AFAIR, on the FB group about this issue most, if not, all people reported an improvement to varying extent. From the posted samples, eyeAF accuracy after the update seems "good enough" to me.
I mean you can nearly always get even better focus if you fine tune via MF, regardless of the camera...

Sure, "good enough" is always a relative term. Thou if you can "always" get a better focus using MF than something isn't right.

That being said i dont have A7 IV so i can't really speak how valid (or not) this is.
