Yay:

  1. No MP bump (phew!)
  2. 4K60 with or without crop
  3. “Anti-dust” (sensor cleaning?) system
  4. Matches other A7iv video, focus breathing, and AF features
  5. (Very much hoping that includes the photo/video/S&Q switch)
  6. Faster crop switching
  7. Some new zoom function

Nay:

  1. Micro HDMI (presumably to keep synchro terminal?)
  2. Still no GPS

Meh?:

  1. 8K
  2. “‘Proxy recording’ of photo rumors”??

A lot of incremental changes, but no major functional improvements. Still a worthwhile upgrade for many. I think it may be time to upgrade from the A9 and A7RIV to an A1 and the new A7RV. Looks like the kids' inheritance is going to take another hit...

I was interesting in upgrading the video on my A7R2, but wasn't sure whether to add to or replace my current body with an A7iv, ASiii, A7Riv, or A1. I have no need for stacked sensors, so this seems like a really great option? Wonder what compromises they are making with video for this camera...

Real-time pupil AF (person) - I guess this means it won’t focus on eye-lashes any more. I wonder if they can add that as a firmware update to the α1?

Very underwhelming if true. Feels like the A9 to A9 II upgrade or am I missing something? I’m not taking about resolution which is fine, more the feature set for the target group.

If true I don't see any reason to upgrade from the A7R IVa. About the only two things that stand out to me are the more advanced focusing and upgraded memory cards. If I was a big BIF shooter it might be interesting but I didn't see anything saying how many FPS it can shoot in continuous mode. 60 vs 100 mp would be nice for cropping and might be enough to temp me but I'm expecting it to cost $4k (or more with inflation) so it needs more than a few incremental upgrades.

I would treat this rumor with a grain of salt.
The telling spec is the micro HDMI socket.

Sony has been using full size HDMI sockets for all their new cameras (A1 and A7 IV).
It does not make sense for them to revert to micro HDMI for the R series.

I'm not going to jump at this but I like the so called incremental upgrades.

Twice the sensor read speed.
BIONZ XR
The heat dissipation effect of Sony’s original internal structure is about 5 times that of the conventional model (α7R IV).

Sensor read speed: As long as 'approximately' is fairly close to actual, I like.
BIONZ XR: The R4 is quite slow so any improvement would be good.
Heat dissipation: Any improvement would be good. I regularly get heat warnings.

Redeveloped sensor, low noise, wide dynamic range: Obviously, if true, we'd have to wait to find out how much of an improvement. 61MP is a lot of pixels, I'd rather have improved pixels than more pixels.

Hardware upgrades and responsiveness are very good news. If you've used an A1 you'll know what I am talking about.

I hope that Sony introduces software goodies too since the users have been clamoring for years. Like focus stacking, better pixel shift.

On a side note it seems more and more rumors are coming from this Photo Rumors website. I am personally glad if that is the case since SonyAlphaRumors admin is only interested in link farming.

If pupil AF is really coming and A1 does not get it with a firmware upgrade, I'm done with Sony .

It's interesting how thing sounds more like a 'slow' A1 than an A7R4. Would it still make sense for the A7R5 to be released as a 11MP higher but fewer fps A1? I just feel like this quality of life update makes less sense with a flagship A1 already out there.

There are a number of key differentiating factors between this and an A1. Most (all) based off the fact that the A1 has a stacked sensor and this does not.

A7RIV sensor read speed is supposedly 1/15s. So even doubling that is still pathetic. Canon R5 is 1/60 and this will maybe be 1/30. A1 is ~1/260.

A1 has 30FPS vs 10FPS. A1 has 120AF calculations per second. This likely has 30. A1 will have lag free EVF without risk of distortion in your final pictures.

I think it still makes a lot of sense for the A7RV. It will be $2500-3000 less expensive than A1. It will have the new processor which just makes the camera so much nicer to use. Just being able to toggle in and out of crop mode at any time would make it 1000x nicer to use than my A7RIV was. Not to mention all the operational speed improvements and the new menus are nice. It will now get Bird Eye AF.

This camera certainly has a place alongside the A1. Neither detract from the other. Both serve their purpose and make sense to me in the market.

Agree with all you said and it appears to be a nice upgrade for those who use video, More video modes. Faster readout will help here too. You can shoot 8K if you want and downsampling sounds like it will be implemented well. They also claim to do better with heat dissipation, so it seems to be a nice upgrade for people who want video too.

"3.0-inch tiltable LCD monitor "

Thank God if this is true.
After the release of the A7IV I was hoping that they wouldn't put that awful flip out screen on all future cameras.

This reads likes someone's guesses, not a real set of specs. Some of it even sounds like a poor transcription of existing specs.
