I caught this Barn Swallow snatching a flying insect out of the air as it flew or glided on its back. There's water and marsh just below the bird. Barn Swallows and other swallows often feed above water. I know this isn't a bird forum, but have any of you ever seen this before? I never have, and I've been a birdwatcher for years. 5/19, Cumberland County, PA.

Unless my eyesight is failing me, it is NOT flying upside down, but just turned its head 180 degrees.

You may be right. It might not be flying upside down, but it's surely gliding that way.

Super catch David. Our faster cameras are capturing amazing moments that we have not seen. Was it and your camera fast enough to catch the other insect in the frame?

Thanks, and agreed. I can't ID anything here but the swallow. I revisited the area today, but it was too dark to take bird photos. But here's a different one I got.
