Just for some fun and curiosity.

Many times specially for things which are back ordered I have seen people talking about placing orders with their local/favorite dealers but rarely mention names. So thought why not create a thread about it. Starting with me I prefer relatively smaller dealers like District Camera, Hunts, Cardinal based on who has item in stock.

If you donít mind share your favorite stop to buy photo equipments and accessories

I do all my shopping at Samyís Camera when I can. Itís the closest thing to a local store. At least it keeps the money in my state, which I prefer!
I only go to the big box stores in NY when I canít get what I need somewhere else. Theyíve already killed off all the little guys. Hopefully Amazed wonít kill off the big box stores.
Of course I donít go to the store unless I need something un-shippable like a few rolls of backdrop paper.
To a lesser extent I go to Looking Glass in Berkeley since it saves 20 miles and a bridge toll!

Any out of state camera store that doesn't charge tax. Amazon is the last resort (5% back). No B&H.

DigiDirect in Melbourne, now.

Some years back, Conn's Cameras in Dublin (they are still going, but I'm no longer in Dublin).

I have two good stores I buy most of my stuff from, that are local. Midwest Photo Exchange is excellent, and usually has good stock too.

There is also a small store called World of Photography that has a smaller new stock. But tons of older used gear, and that's where I buy a good bit of my used stuff (and have sold them a ton of my gear as well).

If the local stores don't have stock, I'll buy at B&H.

I always try and buy from Samy's here in Los Angeles first. Actually I prefer their smaller Pasadena store because I've been working with Frank Schlegel there for close to forty years now. I don't care if I have to pay Ca. sales tax. It's the right thing to do. It's also the right thing for Amazon and everyone else to charge it as it goes a long way to leveling the playing field for your local store, and when you discover you need that roll of seamless or that ink cart now and not later, you want your local store to be there for you. And since price fixing has taken the photo world and practically all retail by storm in the last decade since the supreme court made it legal, there's little if any price difference anywhere you shop. And for those few places that either forget to charge you sales tax or don't know they're supposed to, well, that's just more work for me to declare it on my quarterly returns.

We have a small local store called Camera Outfitters in Lafayette. I also like to go to Robert's when I'm in Indianapolis.

My "local" shop closed its doors 10-15 years ago, so now first stop is the FM B&S forum, followed by B&H, Amazon, and finally Adorama.

I prefer to shop local. Atlantic Photo Supply (APS) can print anything on anything, but it's usually paper. APS was my go-to shop for Canon equipment, often direct from CPS, but the service and benefits of CPS have diminished to the point that I dropped out. Henry's (national chain) is also present locally, and they're a great source for most photo and studio equipment. Recently, I've been snooping around the cine supply chain, and found a great shop in North Van (the opposite of local), called Holly North, which is now my go-to shop for movie paint, Duvetyne tape, and other exotics.

Of course, most of the time, I also check prices at B&H. They offer free shipping to Canada for orders over $99 US, which is usually not a difficult goal to achieve.

B&H using PayBoo to save on taxes is #1. If not, Adorama is the next. I also like to buy Flash Point from Adorama as opposed to Godox since they stand behind their lights better. I go to others typically only for specialized items.

B+H for me to Canada on everything, both new and used, that restrictive national agreements don't prevent - e.g Voigtlander and a few others. Prompt good shipment, good prices, excellent returns practice in the few cases I have needed that. This has been true during Corvid restrictions but for long before that as well.

I would love to shop local but not living in the big city (Toronto) itself travel and smaller stocks and their sourcing issues mean the reducing numbers of specialist stores really cannot compete - though Downtown Cameras in Toronto are pretty good.
