Not many choices for ultrawide primes. Corners look a tad soft even stopped down a bit. I wonder how it will perform for astro? The small size is nice but probably couldn't prioritize minimizing vignetting. I also wonder about coma performance. Suspect it might be better in the end than defishing the Oly 8/1.8 fisheye pro. Time will tell.

I was hoping for a bright and weathersealed Pro ultra wide prime from Olympus/OM as my second lens to complement 12-100mm F4, but I settled for 8-25mm F4 when it was announced, also weathersealed and taking 72mm filters. 9mm F1.7 will still fill a big gap in the system, but my priority now is probably 100mm macro.

Me too. Wish it was a 21mm-equivalent, but probably get it anyway.

Starry sky AF is the cat's meow so prefer AF for astro landscapes if possible. Finally found a review that looked at comatic aberration and not so great at F1.7 as expected.

It appears likely that he used a converter that probably used the baked in linear distortion correction so might not be as bad if use another converter that can ignore that metadata--- (depends on the algorithm used in the correction. ) I don't hold out much hope that the coma performance is actually acceptable at F1.7 though. It is a fine interesting lens and great for many applications but may not be optimal for astro. Perhaps Oly (OM systems ) will make a rectilinear fast WA with different design
choices so is better for astro. At least one can hope.

Does the Laowa have a hard stop infinity? Are really expecting perfection across the frame at f1.7 in a 9mm? Seems a tall order in a $500 lens. Not even sure it is possible.

For a little bit more, I take the AF and weather sealing and forego my exact preferred focal length.
