Years ago when I had my Canon T6i, I could have sworn the focus box/point would light “green” when focus was achieved. Is there a setting to make the black box(es) on the 5DMkIV light green when focused?

Maybe you are thinking of liveview in the rear lcd, because no Canon ever had green AF points in the viewfinder.

The Canon SLRs/DSLRs used red since the 20th century.
Their MILS can use any color they want since there is a color EVF.

I am pretty sure that the 5DMKIV was the first non red square camera (digital), and it caused quite the uproar amongst Canonista’s initially. I could be wrong…

In low light there was a general red LED lighting the field of the squares, but not an LED in each square as with older cameras. IIRC a FW update allowed that general illuminant to be stronger in bright light. The LCD data overlay precluded any individual LEDs. Anyway, the squares were not green.

OK, after searching and searching I finally found the setting. I was mistaken, it's not green but it will light up red:

AF5 > VF Display Illumination > AUTO|ON|OFF

The 5D4, like the 7D2, and a few other DSLRs, no longer have etched AF points on a screen with individual LED illumination per etch. These cameras now have an LCD overlay screen that has all those black boxes, and a single red LED to light up that screen. It is a bit frustrating when you come from something like the 1D4, etc. and then have to figure out how to get something close to what you had on the older designs.
