just picked this up about a week ago and I don't quite get the sharpening out of camera raw. I have a 40 inch HD monitor and images appear soft to me in capture 1Compared to my 35mm cameras. Do you have to apply a lot of sharpening in post? Thanks in advance. Mac

What does 40" HD mean? It implies that you've got a 40 inch diagonal screen with 1920 pixels wide, which would be HD. How close are you to the screen. How many pixels is it displaying? Are you viewing at 1:1?

I process 100s images in Capture One with no sharpening and bring them into Ps and they are very very sharp. I leave the sharpening to the end of the post production process but am viewing on a 27inch Eizo displaying 2560x1440, which is about ideal for a 27 inch screen. You'd probably want at least a 5K if not a 6K screen at 40 inches.

My 100S & GF 45-100 photos are tack sharp with standard sharpening applied in Adobe Camera Raw. How do the Jpegs look in comparison, are they soft also? That might help you figure out if the lens is a dud or something else is going wrong.

Then it's obviously not the camera or lens, but rather sharpening of the raw file, or the "output" to the screen from LR.
My files (50 S II) look a lot less sharp in C1 than if I open the same file in the mac preview app. They don't seem to handle scaling the same way.

I have GFX50s and GFX100s and my pictures are the sharp with any GF lens, more than any FF I owned before as focus is nailed almost 100%. I just got BenQ 32" 4k monitor and I am like wow. I don't use any sharpening in post. I have heard some people comment that C1 defaults can be a bit high.

update took camera back with lens they didn't have another 45-100 in stock so they put a 32-64 on it and said I was using the wrong Card . they put a Toshiba card in it and Camera locked up, they shut it off and turned it back on and nothing! I was using a prograde 300mps 128 gb card no issues . I said you put card in Camera and never formatted it. anyway I was refunded . Mac

ProGrade is a solid card brand, I'm running those in my 100S without a hitch. So you returned the body and lens, well at least you tried it on for size. Digital Medium Format isn't for everyone for all sorts of reasons.

SD read/write speed doesn't matter on cameras like GFX.You are not shooting with A1.

Not sure how digital storage could possibly be involved with this discussion, i mean it either records or it doesn't. I have yet to buy decent storage for my 100s, using some recycled v30 cards from my older cameras. While the recording is slow, the images are sharp including those from 45-100.

I had no slow recording at all as long as the clarity was not engaged on the pro grade card ,it was fast recording and downloading to computer shooting 16 bit uncompressed with super fine jpeg.
