This has to be my favorite Osprey dive sequence that I have ever photographed. I noticed this Osprey fishing at my local lake, and it looked to have had a feather broken from being tangled in fishing line, making it very distinguishable from the other Osprey in the area. That didn't stop it from securing a catch!

I can see why that would be your favorite sequence.

That is a great series and you did a great job capturing it.

Sweet set Alphonse. Great action. That feather will eventually come off

What kind of fish is that?

Really a nice sequence. The first and last of the set are excellent shots. Well done.

That is a special sequence for sure, the broken wing feather adds to the scene. Terrific work.

Wonderful! Congrats!

Birds have a solid redundancy to stay airborne despite loosing some feathers. One feather is no issue at all.

That seems to be some kind of salmon. (My wild but not totally uninformed guess. The small fin (fettfena in swedish) on the back just in front of the tailfin is indicative of salmonides over here, perhaps also overthere.)

I don’t think it’s a Salmon. This was over a freshwater local lake in Colorado, if there were salmon I might choose to take up fishing myself!

Oh, there are many salmoniform fish in fresh waters. Order Salmoniformes (salmons, trouts, and allies).

Don't know that I've ever seen a sequence that shows an osprey catching the fish, pulling it out of the water, and getting airborne so wells as yours.

I'll be thrilled if I ever get one that comes close to this.

Nice sequence and a couple of technical questions if you don’t mind? Handheld or gimbaled? Do you have IS on or off? AED or zone? Cropped much? It looks like you were in M with auto ISO, no exposure comp, which left several of the frames a bit underexposed as it meters the whole frame.

On my Gitzo Monopod with Wimberley MH-100 Monogimbal head.

IS on, with whole zone eye-AF. Some cropping for sure. Yes, I run M with auto ISO, but I chose to edit these a bit dark as it was a very cloudy day.

Much appreciated. Interestingly I find the R5 struggles a bit with AED when shooting ospreys as opposed to eagles, hawks, or even speedy swallows; It tends to focus in on the various bright patches on the nape or wings rather than the eye or even head.
