Jeff & bobbytan,

I really appreciate the follow-up; very informative and it does relieve some worry of the buffer being totally filled up in a burst.

Regards,

Edd

I understand that. One cannot expect a $1,500 camera to be as good as the R5. My problem is I can’t afford the luxury of owning 2 cameras at the same time. So it’s either the R5 or the R7. I have said before that I am willing to pay upwards of $2,500 for an APS-C camera with most of the specs and performance of the R5 or OM-1. The OM-1 has a stacked BSI sensor with cross quad pixel AF, a good buffer, black-out-free, etc. I have half a mind to dump Canon and return to Olympus as size

Appreciate the circumstances. If I had to own one or the other, it would be the R5.

I should have mentioned that one of the reasons I was wanting to downsize from the R5 to the R7 is that the dollar difference will pay for a used RF 50/1.2L which is on my bucket list. Also, my photography bias has shifted from travel and landscape to bird photography. So the extra reach is more appealing to me now than a high MP sensor.

CRAW and 15 fps isn't too bad on the R7. But then I don't do long high speed sequences much either. I'd reserve 30 fps or burst mode for trying to capture short duration sequences. The pro level cameras are meant for that sort of stuff.

Yes, I'd reserve the 30 fps for a "start" or similar applications. 15fps + cRAW is great for general purpose BIF, etc.

Finally had a chance to hold the camera yesterday at Samy's Photo. It didn't feel good/right in my hands. This is the straw that broke the camel's back and caused me to finally cancel my pre-order with B&H. I think it will be a huge mistake to replace my reliable R5 with the crippled R7. I will just wait until Canon release a pro or semi-pro version of the APS-C.

This!!!

Someday there will be a R2 (R3 body with an APS-C sensor)

Just give me 82MP and then crop.

Meanwhile, I am unable to find an R7 from an authorized dealer in stock. Has anyone purchased one recently?

Q:
There is this "thing" that happens, maybe a bug ...
I took a burst of pictures, go to play to review them, if i move my hand over the EVF (electronic viewfinder) the camera shots down ... I have to turn it off and then on again ...
Has someone else experienced this?

It shuts down, or the rear screen goes blank? There is a sensor next to eye viewfinder to darken the screen when you go to take a photo. If you already knew this, my apologizes.

I know the rear screen goes blank when covering the EVF sensor ... what is happened 2-3 times is that the camera goes dead
I am sending ti back for warranty, but not yet, i waited too long to have it, can wait 1-2 months until they have more stock ... in the meantime the camera is perfectly usable, I am getting used to the "weird" layout of the controls, and the small-ish size ... I am in love with the eye detection and great tracking, compared to my 90D ...

I've had my R7 for about a month now, but have only really had 3 outings with it. I'm in love. I'm constantly choosing it over the R5 or R3 for wildlife.

Here is my favorite R7 image so far (which is also one of my favorite images ever taken):

I found some other sources for the R7. I guess the kit sales have bottomed out.

If I go to Africa and Costa Rica, I think I will postpone those trips so I can take an R1 along with an R7, R3, R6, and R5.

This year I brought three R5s, an R7, 24-105/4, 100-500 and 500/4 IS II with RF and EF 1.4x TCs to Africa. I used the R7 specifically to get extra reach with the 500/4 IS II and 1.4x III. AF and IQ were better than expected with the TC and overall the R7 was not too difficult to use. (The R5 images are obviously better and more malleable in PP when extra reach is not needed.) In 8FPS mode the R7 buffer was not an issue.

Geez, you really don't get tongue-in-cheek comments, do you? I will try again.

On my next trip to Timbuktu, I will be taking a Canon R5, R3, R7, Sony A1, and Nikon Z9. Along with those bodies I will be taking the corresponding 600 f4 lenses, medium telephone zooms, and wide-angle lenses. I will also be taking two Sherpas to carry my gear.

Do I need to include and
