Fuji X-T4 already shoots 20 FPS at full 26MP resolution.

R5 shoots 90-mp (dual pixel raw) @ 12-fps in 13-bit mode with a non stacked sensor ... in X-T4 terms that will be 45 fps (12bit 26mp raw) = ( 12 fps * 90 mp * 13bit ) / ( 26mp * 12 bit ) .. or my bad... it seems dual pixel raw limits FPS - still R5 > 20 fps in X-T4 terms (20 fps * 45mp * 12 bit) / (26mp * 12bit) = 34+ fps

I look forward to seeing the details, and whether it makes sense for me to swap my R6 for the R7 for wildlife...to go alongside my R5.

I think you misunderstood me. I was responding to the poster who thought that R7's rumored specs can't be true. I was just saying that given X-T4 already had similar specs two years ago, it seems reasonable for R7 to have these specs or higher.

Not sure why we are comparing X-T4 to R5 Again the reference to X-T4 was just to argue that R7's rumored specs are in line with what you should expect from a high-end APS-C body today. (btw X-T4 20 FPS mode is 14-bit as far as i know, its not 12-bit)

Both R10 and R7 are now said to be launching in 2 weeks, 24th May.And specs are now confirmed according to CR.

I hope the R7 has a 1.6x faster sensor scan speed than the R5, it would make ES much more usable for fast action. My 500 f/4 II is my only remaining Canon lens, R7 would be a nice way to use it again.

Sad to say, no CF Express card slot and with 30fps that could be challenging.

The SD vs CFExpress isn't really any issue, and many of us would prefer SD cards over the much higher costs of CFExpress along with new readers, etc.

These specs are basically taken from the M6II and if the M series can do it, the R7, should it be real, will certainly be able to do it.

I'm not sure it will be an issue. The M6II has the same and still gets along fine with SD.

The other link in the chain to consider is the buffer. If they match what's in the R5/R6, you'll be able to shoot a long continuous burst and the cards will still clear fast. On the R6, I can get about 12seconds of 20FPS before the buffer fills, that is using v60 SD cards. The buffer will then clear in a few seconds, I would guess 3-5. In real use, I've never come close to holding the shutter down for 12s in a row.

On an R7 with about 50% more MP, we could make the over simplification that you'd get about 66% of the buffer time - or 8 seconds of burst with the same buffer. That's not even back of the envelope math, and just meant to be indicative/relative.

A v90 card may do more than that.

Won't know till we know, but SD certainly have the chance to not be a limitation.

Wondering why Canon is continuing to 'announce' new gear when they are not supplying the last two cameras announced (R3/R5c)? At best they are hard to find and are not even available at the Canon online store.

They can't really win either way.

Announce nothing, and the internet says Canon is 'refusing to develop the line' or 'never going to have a replacement for X' or whatever uninformed comments people make.

Announce something, and people chafe at the limited quantities available.

In these unprecedented supply chain times, they picked a lane.

If there is an announcement, it will likely be a "developmental announcement', buying Canon about another year before they have to deliver.

if r7 is released at $2000-$2500 and AF is r5 level, r7 + 100-500 is gonna be wildly popular.

Whine, whine, whine, and not even officially announced by Canon yet.

I bet 90+% of those who wanted a mirrorless replacement for the 7D2 will be perfectly happy with it.

All the specs so far would suit me just fine. The most important spec for many will be the price.

Lack of CFe is quite bad since many users also have R5 and/or R3 bodies and CFe cards. It's another extra expense and logistics hassle requiring two types of cards in the bag.

And it is irrelevant for the many more that own neither an R5 or R3. And the owners of an R5 or R3 will be a very small minority that will purchase an R7. IMO

Depends if it can AF? If like the 7DII then, as much as I hate to I will get the R5. I have two Canon lenses I like so here is hoping.

This will most likely be a cropped R6. I see the price coming in at between $1999-$2299.

Yes, real shame that they didn't do one of each. This would allow people with R5 or similar to leverage their CFe cards while people that have a nice stockpile of UHS-II can likewise leverage what they have. With these specs it means buying three or more UHS-II cards and another card reader.

I waited and waited (and waited and ...) for a 7D Mark III/R7 camera but finally made the move on an R5. I don't regret it but, as about 85% - 90% of what I shoot is wildlife, I would consider the R7 as a backup/second camera for wildlife trips (replacing my 7D Mark II). The combo would certainly give a lot of flexibility for reach. The choice of card slots is not a complete show-stopper for me but certainly gives cause for second thought.
