Thanks Gary,... This region of TX reminds me of African brush lands... low lying trees and thickets in a red & sandy clay. There are lots of places for birds to hide, eat, and nest.

Karl, I gather you've not been to Laguna Seca... You should look it up.
They have a number of photo blinds. They've been refining their land to maximize photographic opportunities. It and Santa Clara are the two premier places to photograph birds in South TX. I was a few weeks early and missed the current migration. I am told it is the best place to photograph a painted bunting among other species.
This was my first visit... if I were a devoted bird photographer, I'd probably make this area an annual event. While I love to photograph birds, and will probably visit again, mammals and wildlife landscapes are where I tend to put my photo time and energy.
