Wandering through the LA Arboretum the other morning I spotted this little Grebe nest and spent about an hour watching these guys going about building and tending to their nest. Pretty tough to get clean shots of the nest as it was tucked away under a Choke cherry tree. Thanks for looking. All comments and critiques are appreciated.

I saw them around there but never found the nest. Those are excellent captures of the pied-billed grebes, Gary!

I am glad that your trip was rewarding and that you made it back home safely. Can't wait to see your peregrine falcon images.

Thanks so much Vladimir. I'm set up for an experiment with my Peregrine images. I've always shot jpegs. This trip I set up one card for Raw. I'm going to process my edits in jpeg and raw to see what the difference is. This set is all jpeg. Too tired to mess with anything else

RAW is definitely the way to go. If you haven't already, get DxO PureRAW to pre-process the images; there is a free trial but you'll definitely like it - you just drop the images in there and there are pretty much no options to choose from.

Can't wait to see your pictures!

Thanks guys ! Finding the nest was just dumb luck. I was flat on my stomach hoping for some Mergansers to come in close and a Grebe popped up and led me right to the nest just to my right. I never would have seen it if I wasn't tracking him to the shore.
I wish I could monitor the nest Karl. Would love to get the babies but this was in California and sadly I'm back in Buffalo. I'll have to let Joshua know where it is so he can keep track

Excellent set of images!
Spotting the nest is a great find and it looks like you can observe it without disturbing them. I suppose if they are nesting at the Arboretum they must be pretty habituated.
