I like you find myself in a similar situation. I have the 70-200 gm in the tele end and primes on the other end being 14, 24, and 35 and also have a gap between 35 and 70. So far I keep thinking about getting the new 24-70 gm ii which I have on pre order or the 50 gm as I feel that fits the gap well. If I get the new 24-70 gm ii I keep thinking about selling off the 35 gm to help cover some of the cost and because I don't like redundancy. I also made a post about this about a month ago and I'm still undecided.

The statements quoted appears contradictory, without internal zoom, the 75-180 is way more susceptible to intrusion of water and dust regardless of what other sealing it has. I have had no luck in the past with preventing water vapor intrusion in the wet if the lens is not internal zoom. Perhaps you just don’t use the Tamron in the wet?

What do you think of the sigma 16-28/2.8? Lightweight at 450g, slightly cheaper than the Sony 16-35, also has internal zoom and is brighter by a stop

Have you used the Tamron 70-180? I have, often in the wet, I have yet to incur any issues with this lens at all. It ticks so many boxes for my uses (see next post below).

Patriot

What I often shoot:
- Landscapes
- Travel
- Street
- People

Bodies:
a7R IV A
A9

Once I switched to primes I'm afraid that was it for the zooms (Pentax, Nikon, Sony, Contax) as far as 'standard' focal lengths go (16mm - 85mm). I know zooms have improved immensely but with primes I retain redundancy (essential when in remote locations) and wider apertures plus usually a weight saving (if not in the bag then at least on the camera) and of course choice, if I would prefer to have different features for different focal lengths in a zoom range (I don't wish to turn this into a prime vs zoom debate, just stating my personal preference).

Now in the focal ranges you mentioned these are my lenses that I'm very happy with :

Laowa 12/2.8 (with magic adapter it becomes a 17mm f4 Tilt lens). Too heavy for travel but wonderful otherwise, especially in cities.
Samyang 18mm : often carried (very light) but rarely used.
Samyang 24/1.8 (replaced my Loxia 21mm as superior in some aspects, esp. Astro - I carried both until I was sure).
Sigma 35/1.4 DG DN : lovely lens but a tad heavy/large for travel
Samyang 45/1.8 : wonderful tiny lens, very sharp always worth popping in the bag
Samyang 85/1.4 : great lens that has been tested by umpteen testers and compares very well to the Sony/Sigma.
Tamron 70-180/2.8 : superb lens for travel and landscapes (my most used lens when hiking multi days and for travel). ~

For overseas or remote location travel the 18/24/45/70-180 are enough.
For landscapes 18/24/35/70-180
For people : 35/45/85/70-180
For street : 24/35/85/70-180

I have other lenses of course but these cover 95% of my shooting nowadays. I have to say the new 16-35/4 doesn't tick any boxes for me. No redundancy and slow and no zooms shine throughout their range but great maybe for landscape day trips.

I don't shoot zooms very often, so haven't invested in much. My Sony-brand wide to normal zooms are 12-24/4G and 24-105/4G.

Otherwise, I have Canon EF16-35/4L IS and EF70-200/4L.

Today I hardly shoot any of these lenses. Tomorrow-- who knows?

I have the Tamron 17-28 & 28-200 zoom combo, plus the following primes:
Voigtlander FE 15/4.5 & 21/3.5
Zony FE 55/1.8
Samyang FE 35/2.8 & 75/1.8
Sony 100/2.8 STF
and a Sigma 8mm/3.2 fisheye with Nikon to Sony dumb adapter for 360 degree VR tour photography.

My lenses in the ranges you specify are the 24GM, 35GM & Tamron 70-180/2.8 (oh & the FE85 - but that's limited use really)

My most used kit is now A1 with Tamron 35-150 f2/2.8 and the A7riii with the 16-35GM which I can easily carry in a shoulder bag, not light but incredibly versatile. For me this set up really covers everything. If out doing just city street work and wanting go lighter it will be the Leica Q2 and A1 with the FE55 and Samyang 18/2.8 in the bag. I have the 100-400GM + 1.4 convertor but it only gets used when really needed. I also have the FE 90 macro G and FE85/1.8 which again will get used when needed. The best purchase I have made is without doubt the Tamron 35-150 big and heavy but covers such an incredibly useful range f2 at 35mm with outstanding performance throughout the range, a no brainer

I second this. Tamron 35-150 has become my most used lens since late Nov last year. Another lens I absolutely fell in love with is the Sony 200-600, but this is a different story. I do own and use the 16-35GM when a wide lens is truly necessary; yet, this does not happen often.
I might be wrong, but I have the feeling that Tamron 35-150 on a high MP camera should make the 70-200 unnecessary except in some special circumstances.
After hiking with the Sony 200-600, I am always pleasantly surprised how light the Tamron 35-150 feels for a change!

I am also a hobbyist and shoot similar things. I don't have your zooms but in my prime line-up, I jump from the 35GM to the 85 Batis. Last year I saw an interesting video by Andy Mumford about taking landscape images that offered different perspectives from what we normally see (approx 50mm). https://youtu.be/QtTxkgkeuak

This is excellent - thanks!

That Sigma 16-18 looks good on paper. For landscape f2.8 is superfluous, and for astro it's suboptimal. The lighter Sony f4 will do what I want. (My astro lens for auroras has been the Laowa f/2 15mm Zero-D.) Where I like f2.8 is in the normal to tele ranges.

I tried the Sigma compact 24-70, nice handling but I returned it because it was not sharp enough. At all apertures my Sony 4/24-105 was superior.

The new Sony 16-35 with internal zoom utilizes electronic correction for distortion (in camera or in post, either) to achieve high resolution edge to edge. So did my APS-C 18-105 which was excellent. (So does the Hubble telescope). It's 100g lighter than the Sigma.

Yes, the Tamron 70-180 telescopes, but it is well sealed. Apparently it's difficult to make an internally zooming telephoto w/o huge size, such as the Sony 200-600. Seals have finite lifespans, but so do I. At my age my lenses will likely outlast the owner.

12-24 gm. 12-24 f4 before that. 16 isn't wide enough for me.

For 16-35 I use a 24-70, I rarely shoot below 24 and if I do I will use the 12-24G.

For 70-200 I use the 85DN and 135GM. With the 7R4 I can crop the 135 to get the equivalent of 200 f/2.8.

I shoot a lot of landscape and use the Sigma 45 DG DN between my 16-35 and 70-200.
It's not an ideal solution because I'm cropping more often than I'd like.
I'm looking at the new 24-70 GM II to replace that 45.

Also shoot lots of landscapes.

Was out Saturday night as a storm approached just before sunset and took out my trusty 24-105. Came away with 5 keepers from the session and at a range from 24 to 105mm all taken within 10 minutes as the rain started/stopped and I literally ran around to shoot towards the setting sun and then towards our harbor.

Couldn't have done it with a prime...

Not sure if can link from my site but:

105mm

Have more I plan to share later this week where the sky became pink-purple in the other direction a few minutes later

24-105/4 is my general purpose lens and 100-400 GM is my wildlife and long-landscape lens, with the 90 macro as a wildlife supplement. I used to have a 16-35/2.8 but found I rarely used it and, when I did, rarely went as wide of 16mm so I'm fine with 24mm being my widest option. TBH I generally like the focal range between 35mm and 70mm the most and have two primes in that space (Batis 40 and 55/1.8). I also have the Batis 135mm but rarely use it so might sell for a faster prime in the 70-135 range.

I used to be an f/2.8 zoom addict in Canonland (24-70 and 70-200 in addition to the 16-35) but really don't miss the weight/size/cost of those fast zooms now I no longer really do the sort of photography that they are geared toward.

I still use a Contax 35-70mm f3.4 on an adapter for landscape stuff even though I own the Sony 24-105. Smaller, lighter, with great color and contrast compared to the 24-105. I am toying with the idea of Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 Gen 2 as a replacement for both, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

The CV 50mm APO is quite stellar also in that range.

Re Tamron G2 - you'd be ok with the shorter focal length than the 24-105?

Lenses like the 35-150 or 28-200 are good for their unique focal length, optically it’s inferior to the 24-70GMii, 24-70 art, 70-200GMii…

I think even 28-200 is competitive with its main rival: 24-105 when it comes to IQ, but for Tamron 35-150 the situation is different.
It's not really inferior to the lenses you mention, it's more of give and take, depending on what you value more. The Tamron is not *as* sharp as 70-200GM II for example, but has CA better control (vs Sigma I think Tamron is sharper in most of the shared range)...

From the samples I have seen, the Sigma 24-70 is better than the Tamron 35-150 in the shared range

The 28-200 only needs to compete with the 24-240 I think, the 24-105 doesn’t have nearly the same reach

If you are cropping why not just use the 70-200?
