I really like the smaller size of the slower 14-35 F/4L over the much bigger 15-35 F/2.8L. Being an F4 lens, how will the slower lens affect AF during some of the darker venues specifically for dancing shots? My cameras are Canon R5/R6.

Without the aid of an IR beam (doesn't work with mirrorless), another full stop to help the AF is really a big deal with mirrorless.

We have the 24-105 ƒ4 on one of our R6 rigs and if the world gets super dark, indeed the AF gets slower. One trick is to let the camera shoot without confirmation (purple AF config panel 4, one-shot AF release prior - move it to the left - rectangle icon). At ƒ4, wide angle, you have significant DOF so if AF is off a little, the subject will still be sharp.

I really liked the 15-35 for receptions. High ISO is really clean on the R6. I was amazed shooting at f/2.8 and bumping the speed up and taking advantage of IS on the camera.

A wise choice, the only downside is size/weight but lots of upsides

just don't get size/weight is a downside.

stop whining people. if need... work out - take care of yourself.
the RF 15-35mm L is not a heavy/large lens.

Love our society... we want easy.....

from pre-RF time frame: 70-200 L all day will get you sore the next day.

RF days ... the 28-70 f2 will give you a workout for sure. been there and doing it.

let me get back to my taxes.... SO exciting.

No bricks for me. Stick 1000 gram weight limit on glass.

Im not whining at all and is odd that you would read my post that way. If a lens is 200-400 grams heavier it makes very little difference. If you carry 5-6 lenses two bodies and some flash gear it can add up. For me it's not a problem but for some, weight is an issue. Maybe they are not a big butch male or maybe they are old or even have disabilities or maybe they are young. My daughter starting using a DSLR at 8, so for her keeping it light was a consideration. Maybe they want a lens for hiking, or weight is an issue for travel, there are lots of reasons people want lighter gear. It may not be an issue for you or I but don't think your way is the only way, that would be arrogant

I use the Canon 28-70 f2 for most everything now and it's almost funny when I use my 70-200 2.8 and it feels like a toy because it's SO light. It's all about what you get used to. For wide angle shots, I like the small weight and size of the 16mm RF prime lens.

Oye. Because if your 70-200 is the RF, the difference in weight is close to 35% (with the collar removed).

I've never held a 1400+ g lens, let alone shoot all day with one. Not going to say I never will, but for the moment I'm trying to pretend it doesn't exist.

Come to the dark side....the 28-70 is a class of it's own. You'll also have amazing looking arms after one season! Embrace the process ;-)

I know, I know — I'm in denial. If it renders like the RF85 1.2 I'm in trouble.

Just add a 2 lb weight on the bottom of your current setup and shoot with it for a month, then every lens will feel light! It’s no 1.2 but close enough
