So, with all the interest in the 28-70/2 and 14-30/4, it seems the design for the 28/1.4 has been overlooked. The patent, filed in August of 2020, contains what would become the 35/1.4 DG DN, but it also contains a design for a 28/1.4 with the same mid and rear groups as the 35, but different front groups. The patent itself is specific to a focus group design utilized by the examples, and there's no guarantee any of the others will see production, but both the 28 and 14-30 seem likely to me.

A fast 28 roughly the same size as the 35 may be coming soon.

Sometimes not long at all (the 35/1.4 DG DN is based on that 33m patent), sometimes an eternity.

There’s zero guarantees a lens will make it from Patent to Production.

Would love a 28mm lens to equal the one on the Leica Q but I'm afraid that this at f1.4 will be quite big and heavy

Am I mistaken to think that there is already a Sigma 28 f/1.4 for Sony? I believe it wasn't originally developed for mirrorless and the AF might not be up to today's expectations, but the IQ was reviewed as good. How the new one might be better? Certainly it doesn't look relatively compact at 12.3 cm.
Regardless, any new fast 28 mm lens for Sony would be a very welcomed addition.

It's pretty big and heavy, but is excellent optically, and I have no issues with AF. It's 13.4 cm and 925g.

The new lens should be approx. 315g lighter and approx. 2mm shorter than the old one.

Ready to pre-order it. I think Sigma glass is some of the best out there from any manufacturer.
