https://www.dpreview.com/news/2114103183/sigma-unveils-its-16mm-30mm-and-56mm-f1-4-primes-for-fujifilm-x-mount-cameras

"Sigma also says it intends to expand its X-mount lineup, with the next planned release being an X-mount version of the 18–50mm F2.8 DC DN, which is currently available for L-mount and Sony E-mount, and is set to be released in December 2022"

Good to have more options, esp. the 18-50mm...

...but I have decided for myself not to buy any lenses for Fuji X unless they have an aperture ring. Had the old 27mm and 50-230mm and the ergonomics just didn't work for me, esp. when used in combination with other Fuji lenses. Weirdly I don't have any issue with non-aperture ring lenses on Nikon or Hasselblad, so I guess it's just my muscle memory with the X-T3

Honestly, this marks the moment where I just recommend the average person Fuji cameras. I feel like these lenses (esp the 16 & the 18-50) have been absolutely phenomenal in terms of value without a good value body to put them on. But the X-S10 is a body you can mount them on now, so...

Geez what a combo.

The primes are good from a value perspective. I imagine these were the easiest products to produce without a ton of investment, for Sigma to try the waters in X mount

I hope Sigma has great success, and for the next set of lenses looks at Fuji's lineup, and offers products in Fuji's gaps. Here's some that don't have as much overlap with Fuji's lineup:

18-35/1.8
50-100/1.8
18-300 (hi, Tamron!)
60-600
150-600 (quick, before Fuji releases theirs!)
120-300/2.8
105/2.8 macro
105/1.4
135/1.8

Fuji's own lens lineup is really solid, with the only significant gaps at the long/fast end. If I were Sigma I'd next launch the 150-600 Contemporary to eat up years of pent-up demand for telephotos. It would be great timing with the coming X-H2.

After that I'd release the f/1.8 zooms. And then only go further if sales were very high.

56 will intrigue me. I'd like to fill the gap between the 35 1.4 and the 90. We'll see what the reviews of this are then make a pick from either of Fuji's 2 fast 50ish primes or this guy.

"85ish" is getting pretty crowded now with Fuji's own 50's, tokina, viltrox, and now this. I don't have an 85 for my kit, but would be interested in seeing the reviews on this.

I'm not familiar, but outside price why would I want to get a Sigma 56 1.4 vs the Fuji 56 1.2?

From the initial tests coming in the 56mm sigma’s optical performance is definitely something to consider. I do prefer the aperture ring on the lens. …but if optics are better ….price is way better…autofocus probably at least on par and most likely better. Less size and weight too. You really need to want that aperture ring.

I do really like having the aperture ring. All my 'Fuji' lenses have them - the Fuji 16 2.8, 27mm, 7A 35 1.2 (X mount), 7A 50 1.1 (M mount w adapter).
But if the optical perf and AF is better on the Sigma than the Fuji 56, then the price diff and aperture ring may cancel each other out.

What does Sigma's support mean for X-mount?

On the Aperture Ring.
Lenses without it are very difficult to set using the wheel on the camera bodies - when wearing gloves/mittens in cold weather. For me, a determining factor as I am in Cold weather more than half the year.

These lenses being available on Fuji had made me considering selling my M50 II for the X-S10 as I love the Sigma 56mm. Funny how many prefer aperture rings as I’m definitely in the minority that don’t like them (which is why these Sigma lenses appeal to me more).

I actually have the 16mm and 56mm in EF-M mount but it seems it would be easier to just sell them and buy again in X mount.

I agree.

I had to set a wheel to control aperture on my older 27mm f/2.8, and it was not optimal.

In addition, the aperture setting was not "sticky." If I set an aperture ring to f/5.6 and turn the camera off and on, the lens is still at f/5.6. But on my XPro2 if I assign the front control wheel to set aperture (with the camera in AV mode, anyway) the aperture reverts to whatever the camera decides to set it to based on metering... and I have to manually reset it for each shot.

The aperture ring is a major reason I dumped my wonderful DSLR in favor of Fuji. If I wanted the experience of spinning wheels on the body to control the aperture I'd have gone with Sony.

Sorry, Sigma. While I love your lenses in general, I'm not seeing the benefit in real world images over the small / light / fast offerings from Fujifilm. Yes, zoom to 100% or more and you see a difference but that is now how images are actually viewed. So stop doing that! :-)

Well, I might make a switch if I can get the glorious sunstars that I had with my 18-35 f/1.8.

I ended up getting a used Fuji 35 1.4 instead of a new Sigma. Pretty much just because of the aperture ring. On the Xpro3 a lens with the aperture ring completes the experience, it is the 'correct' design.
Awesome to use, and love the results. No focus issues, no hunting etc even in very low light.

I'm loving the Sigma 56mm 1.4. I just ordered the Sigma 30mm see how I like it compared to the 35mm and 33mm. These lenses would be rated a 10 if they had aperture rings.

That's why the aperture ring on the Fuji lenses has the "A" (for "arctic") position - you can set it there for cold weather and then switch back to normal operation when the gloves come off.

I'm with you on this. I had one lens without an aperture ring, the Fujifilm 27mm f/2.8. Loved the lens, but very much disliked losing the aperture ring. The work around, assigning a wheel to control aperture, was far from satisfactory. I eventually got the v2 copy that now come with the aperture ring.
