SAR says October 26 as the launch date for the A7RV.

That is what I predicted in February already in this post:

Nah, this year, but 2024 is probably the year when I might be able to afford it if I start eating only noodles today.

Right. I would expect the new one will catch up with all the focus system goodies and new processor so new menus. Otherwise wishes and guesses seem all over the place.

Guess i am curious to see if they will up the mp, include bird af, cfexpress and handle noise better? Probably all I would need to convince myself to upgrade. We'll see. Kinda doubt we'll see it this year or next but hey i like surprises 😁

Given the track record of SAR, it could be 2060 before we see that camera but we'll see. I think they end up being right about 10 percent of the time and maybe this is one of those cases.

I personally hope the A7R5 is focused on landscape with at least 75mpix and leading class low iso image quality. The A9 and A1 series cameras should get all the great focus tracking features…let the A7R series look towards the landscape crowd.

If it were an A7IV with the same 61mp sensor and a higher resolution evf, would that be enough for most?

I like @MAubrey's idea that it will be a 90MP sensor using the pixel architecture already introduced in the Fuji X-H2 (Page 2, #14). Sounds good to me.

Unfortunately SAR's record on predicting anything is terrible, so who knows how long it may be. I hope it's October.

I wish it had a faster sensor readout, on par with canon r5. That would make me consider buying it. Othwerwise I am good with my a9 mk I, while waiting for something to replace it.

Would be nice to have 16 bit RAW files...

Probably won't happen. Probably unnecessary too.

Not just unnecessary but a bad idea…there’s not enough data to need 16 bit coding, so you are making everything slower and bigger just to record some noise more accurately.

For landscape photographers we would all be cheering in joy if sony gave us bit more MP, class leading low iso IQ and focus tacking!! I would probably upgrade to it eventually bit later from the A7R4 as I am really satisfied with what I get out of it.

Looks like Sony is doing a "creative space" 10/27-28. SAR thinks that points to the release of the A7RV on 10/26. Hope so. Based on their history of release schedules an October release of an "R" body would be normal, looks like the IV was in July but the III was October.

I would settle for an A1 with 61mp and better higher ISO performance with focus stacking.

A7RV would have to have upwards of 90mp with CF express cards for me to be interested with many of the A1 features other than super fast FPS especially with ever larger files. Again Focus stacking and in camera pixel shift would be great additions as well as lower noise and higher ISO performance.

I am so spoiled by the faster CF express cards and faster buffer I would not settle for anything else at this point.

Sony favorite months to launch bodys in are April and October (yes I have done the statistic research to come to that conclusion).

SAR says they have sources saying that Sony won't, due to the chip shortage, launch any FF bodys in the first half of 2022, so then October is most likely. That would also let the A7RIVa have been on the market for 1 year and a quarter until it gets superseded.

As to specs, I guess forth generation body, mech shutter, no stacked sensor at about 80-100 Mpix.

Why not the 61 Mpix again? It looks like that was
...Show more

In my post from early February this year (quoted above) I predicted the following for the A7RV:

* Forth gen body with the new menus
* 80-100 Mpix BSI sensor, non stacked, so mech shutter at 10 fps
* Release in October 2022
* Price 500-1000 above the original A7RIV launch price which was 3500 USD

I missed on the sensor which also made that by reusing the old sensor the price landed a tiny bit on the underside of the price range I had predicted.

Body, shutter and fps was spot on and so was the release month. Not a too bad a guess in all I would say.

With the same A7RIV sensor I am not sure if I want to buy an A7RV to replace my A7RII though, need to think about it. Would you do it?

Absolutely not. Pricing got completely out of hand. Minor upgrades all fall into the "nice to have" category. In your shoes, I would replace my camera at some stage with a used A7RIV, or stick with another A7RII body, depending on how much of an upgrade the autofocus differences are. I think I'd prefer the A7RII sensor actually.
