I searched internet and these forums. Didn't find anything except the way too expensive WR-R11a/WR-T10 combo (or older version with 3 pieces). Is ML-L7 compatible with Z5? It's bluetooth and I cannot see any reason why Nikon make this simple change for basic camera. Bluetooth can be hidden from the camera (when taking family pics).
Couple of questions
1. Is there a bluetooth option available?
2. Does the WR-R11a combo work with Z5?
3. Does the trigger (WR-T10) need to be in line with WR-R11? Can I hide the remote to trigger camera?
I know third party options with receiver unit going on hotshoe. I want to try to avoid it. It's a pain and hard to connect each time.
You need the WR-R11b + WR-T10, the WR-R11a is for cameras with the round 10 pin socket, the ML-L7 won't work with the Z5, you could also download the Snapbridge app and use that as a remote release.
There are also cheaper but more cumbersome remote where you connect a cable to the remote socket on the camera and mount a receiver on the hot shoe. Separate trigger in your hand. Just a quick search will turn those up. No personal experience with them.

I have used one in the past. As you mentioned one issue. 'Cumbersome'.

Thank you. I thought Z5 has 10 pin connector (getting tomorrow). Do you know if the WR-T10 need to be in sight with WR-R11b. Can I hide it behind me?
Looks like you cannot put the camera in the bag with WR-R11b connected (because of protruding nature). Also you can easily break it.
Snapbridge is not an option for me. I'll be using it only for family pictures. I don't want to show the phone in pictures.

If your use is “getting in the picture” why not use the timer. You can have it take several shots. One will be good.
With little one (4 yr old) it's always a gamble. Not sure if she will have the patience to wait until multiple shots are taken. So we should click when she 'behave'
But you made me think about interval shooting which I have never done. Can even Z5 do interval shooting? Let me look into this. This might be a better solution than shooting while hiding remote. Thanks for the input.

Have you considered using the self timer function? You can set it to release 20 seconds after the shutter button has been pressed
Yes, I'm aware of self timer function and used it a lot. But it's not practical to click at the 'right' moment. U should act when camera click .
I've used this with my D500 and it works. But does the remote need to be visible to receiver? I can't remember. I don't like the messy wires and hotshoe mount. Where do I put the flash then. Anyway I understand we may not have an option. C'mon Nikon it's an easy fix for ML-L7.
It works by radio signal. It is good to about 300 feet. Line of sight is not needed. It does NOT need to go in the flash mount. It is designed that way for convenience, not necessity. I have let it dangle or attach it to the camera strap. Your choice. I use mine on the Z6 and it works very well. If you do not like thed wire then pay out the big bucks for the Nikon WR-WRT thingies. Then you have the WRT thing sticking out of the camera.
Nikpn does have an IR remote. That is strictly stand n front of the camera and point it at the camera.
