p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Shaggy Scalycap Pholiota squarrosa

This species is always found in tight clusters at the bases of trees.

The scales become much less prominent, and flatter, when they mature.

Olympus EM-1, (aperture priority), Olympus m4/3 30mm f3.5 ED macro, 1/40 & at 1/25 at f11 ISO 3200, hand-held.

The stereos are crosseye & conventional.

Very nice detail, especially for handheld. I have photographed Pholiota in New England and the species I've photographed look very different and they aren't quite as clustered. Good find!

Thanks, Jamie.

We have 11 species, all associated with wood, but not all clumping.
