At this time of year the coastal fields and hills are aglow with the bright yellow flowers of Mustard Grass. It leads to many passing motorists pulling off to the side of the road for a photo grab of these vistas.
I was on a trail along the ocean bluffs slightly south of Half Moon Bay, CA. The trail passes by working farms and grazing cattle. This view is one of a farm in which the soil was being disked for preparation of Winter crop plantings of artichokes. The view is looking east to the foothills of the Coast Range which separates the coastal communities with the larger urban cities along the west shore of the San Francisco Bay.
My intent to frame this was to use the white barn on the right, and the small Oak trees on the left, to bookend the hills beyond. I kept the black soil in the foreground for contrast. As I was taking this shot, fog began to form which helps break up the bluebird sky. Thirty minutes later, when I got back to my car, the fog was so thick that the barn in this picture would not be visible.
