Ten minutes of shooting coyotes at Bosque del Apache…. if this was all I had gotten it would have been worth the trip.

On my second morning out shooting the SH Crane take-offs something caught my eye out in the distance, with a quick swing of my camera I was staring at two beautiful coyotes. They were just meandering around with their noses to the ground coming closer and closer to me and a large group of Sandhill Cranes. Standing in shallow water about 50 yards away from the coyotes the cranes didn’t appear to be bothered by their presence. On my third day this entire sequence repeated itself offering even more shooting opportunities.

Great photos of the coyotes! Bosque looks like a great place for wildlife photography. The coyotes also look quite healthy, and not scruffy like the ones I have seen (occasionally) in my neighborhood.

You are right, these alone would have been worth the trip. I don't think I have seen any shots this close. They are amazing. Excellent set Louie.

beautifully done Louie. These are different than the ones in YNP. More reddish brown, as compared to those in YNP and the winter coat is also less heavy.

Excellent set Louie. The cranes must know that they can easily take to the air before the coyote could get close.

Great images Louie! I once had a coyote trot by me while I was standing outside the car. They must be somewhat acclimated to people and cars. We've been amazed at how tolerant the birds are with the coyotes coming fairly close.

Louie, those coyotes look really healthy and well-fed to me. Bosque seems to provide plenty of food to them. And you captured them really well; I love all of them but the last four images are just superb.
