Heard about this over at DPR.

Tamron says there is an issue with the 20mm F/2.8, 24mm F/2.8 and 35mm F/2.8 lenses when used on an A7IV. The lenses switch to manual focus on their own during video recording. They are investigating.

Probably a lens firmware update will be coming.

The official Tamron page is here - https://www.tamron.com/news/press_release/20211223.html

Just your usual subtle seasonal hint to buy OEM if you know what's good for you.

Well, that would nullify one of the great advantages of open (licensed) e-mount...

And so far it's just those 3 primes. 3 lenses don't make the entire Sony FE mount....geesh...

Good on Tamron for looking into it.

Definitely. I was just kidding. Although Sony lens division is probably chuckling a bit at Tamron's woes right now.

By the way, if it's an open mount, is there any official confirmation about whether Sony makes money from the sale of third party lenses? Kind of makes you wonder what the relationship between Sony and third parties is when snafus happen.

That's a good question but I doubt Sony takes any blame on this .

.

Considering Sony owns a significant percentage of Tamron, I rather doubt it.

I know you said you were kidding, but I couldn't resist...

[sarcasm]

Yeah, because Sony never needs firmware updates to camera or lenses. It's always perfect from day one.

Like the 200-600 on a7R IV, sheesh....all those complainers.

It is not like these OSD primes are otherwise good for video. They are slow and noisy and their focus action causes the image to bounce around. They are inexpensive stills lenses not designed for video recording.
