Seriously, I’m coming from a 1DX. What size card do I need to hold 1000 images? Recommended brands?

Most of my R5 raw images are between 43-48 MB in size.

A 128G CFE card will be plenty for you for still images. The biggest determining factor will be if you plan on doing much video work. If you do, then you will want to snag this 2TB card at such a great price.

Deal of the century. Almost 2hrs of 4K 120 on each card. You can use these like external hard drive storage if you want. Smoking deal. I would imagine the R1 will have dual CFexpress slots and these would be fast enough for that camera as well but I'm just speculating.

For those who shoot stills only the Prograde SD 256gb cards are a good deal too, these are fast enough to handle most of the video settings as well:

Even 64gb might give you 1000? The counter says ~3000 at 1600 on 24mp aps. Maybe 25-30MB files on average? Even if R5 is double still be 1500. Lower ISO more

I wonder how long it would take to import 2TB of images into LR.

Rather than the usual import a thousand images = go grab a cup of coffee, I suspect it would be more like import 2TB = Take the dog to the groomer and go out to dinner with the wife.

For sure, that would be a long one to import 2TB into LR. I'm currently uploading 14 terabytes of images to the cloud right now and it's looking like it will take 2-3 months of uploading 24-7 before the initial backup finishes.

I’ve started using the 2TB card as the internal backup card that always stays in the R5, and I rotate through a couple of 256GB SD cards as I shoot. The R5 is setup to write each image to both cards, so even if the 2TB card failed, I’d still have all my images on the 256GB cards. I used a similar setup with the 5D4 and 128GB CF & SD cards. This large 2TB card just simplifies having to only rotate one card type (SD) in and out of the R5 instead of having to keep up with two smaller cards (SD & CFB) each time they get filled up.
