Hmm, since the host site is called "live.staticflickr.com" and the little line is moving around then perhaps this IS the live and static parts of it's name revealing itself?

ps: I am using a zoom to 200% on the webpage, so not after clicking in the image which opens a new tab

ps2: sometimes it moves around a bit more to the right ( your right, not cat's). Tried a few times and it does not always shows at same location. Actually at one point had a small blue rectangle; I would say it seems to be a website glitch, but I am not an expert

In your screenshot I can clearly see what you mean... But I cannot see it on any screen here in my home... Strange thing, it is...

I have been seeing this odd line for several months now on my own images as well as many others. I don't see it on the cat image though. I've noticed it only appears here on this site and not on the original linked images.

Enough talk. I want more pictures!

Which browser?

I tried at 200% in Chrome and Safari (both on Mac) and no lines like in your screenshot.

It is an interesting occurrence. When a photo exceeds FMs width, the line "may" show up as in the second photo below (screen capture from the Mustang Air to Air thread).

However when I viewed it when it was within the FM width, the line disappeared:

Google Chrome - but I am in windows 11 64bit

- at 200% shows up at that location, but at 175% is to the right at the cat's nose right edge: at 150% there is too much hair and detail for my eyes to discern it

I see the same line in such photos I post to FM—and they are served by my web site. The line appears in both FF and Safari so I suspect incorrect HTML. Note the line position and length match the enclosing HTML frame for the thread. Zooming the browser view changes the frame position, and the line moves correspondingly.

Funny I do not see it anywhere on this end or on FM. At least it is not the R3

A couple small review points using it so far

Faster start up vs R5

Snaps faster to focus in low light vs the R5. I set both cameras with the Rf 400mm at infinity and went to 15ft in very dark conditions and the R3 did if faster with no hunting. The R5 still did a great job but a couple of times had to hunt a bit.

Eye control works well better than I thought it would. Not for every scenario but it is a tool vs gimmick.

Still do not have the hand + with the RF 400 or 600mm like with the 100-500mm same as the R5.

I like the LCD has a dimmer vs complete shut off, wakes up faster.

All the AF settings work with eye focus. Using the center AF with surrounding points worked very well to grab initial subject then the eye AF took over and tracked across the full screen.

Near to far focus is much better vs the R5

The R3 feels just better in the hand, including buttons more so vs the grip.

Using the OVF sim makes reviewing the pictures in the view finder look terrible but on the LCD they are fine. Did not really notice a difference using it, but tried very briefly.

The AF seems to be a bit more sticky so far but again limited flight subjects.

Hopefully I will check EF vs RF and if there is any difference vs just extenders which I do like the RF better on either camera.

So far I feel everything is very refined over the R5

This has brought me back that 1dx feel I always liked, I know Canon said this is not the flagship but I feel it is better than the 1dx Mark III on many levels with a flip screen ( a big plus for me).

Ditto to everything Rob said. Agree with every observation.

I’ve shot almost exclusively gulls for two days. Nothing super challenging, but the camera finds the eye faster and is much much stickier than the R5 in these situations. I’ve chummed these birds so they are coming closely.

ECAF for birds in light is probably useless, or at least not as good as the previous method I used which was jump straight to tracking across the whole frame with eye AF enabled. If the bird is way out of focus then I try to get it in focus with the center point plus surrounding points and then enable eye AF and tracking. The ECAF frequently jumps to the background if I’m not hitting the BIF accurately enough which can be difficult when panning and keeping a big lens steady.

Great info. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing some high ISO images as I think I will replace my Nikon D5 with the R3. If you are willing, I'll PM you my email if you could send me high ISO (25,600 or higher) RAW file.

Great info Rob, thanks.
Question on the above two comments you made. Does this mean Canon has figured out how to snap focus onto a severely oof subject such that it finds it no matter how oof it is? Basically the phenomenon that has plagued ALL MILC up to this date so far regardless of brand.

I have not done enough flight yet to see if they solved completely but so far I have not got the focus to just hang there. If not fixed fully then definitely in the right direction.

I don't find much issue on MILCs to go near to far. Sometimes if the bird is against sky and grossly OOF but that is just a gentle reminder that such shots suck anyways

The big test is going far to near when the near subject is small and grossly OOF. That is where all the MILCs really struggle to varying degrees.
