Anyways here is a shot out of the camera and then cropped and edited. ISO 5000

I culled 6,000 pics. No time to edit today. The photos were almost exclusively of chummed Ring-billed Gulls.

I had a notably higher keeper rate with the R3 as compared to the R5 and the files look great. Yes I wish it were 50 megapixels, but I think the 24 megapixels will be okay for me for most situations. I've kept one R5 and will shoot it alongside the R3. I have the R3 set to have a priority of taking the photo as soon as possible as opposed to looking for focus. It sometimes takes 1-3 photos to obtain the bird and then the eye, but once it does it just seems to not let go. Very, very good upgrade to the R5 based on one day of shooting so far. I'll shoot a lot more tomorrow.

Here's an R3 shot from a football game last night. ISO 10K, NO noise reduction. This file is down res'd for FM.

I would be extremely interested in your opinion of how well the R3 worked with the 200-400 for game action at a night football game. Thanks!

Rob spoiled me with the ultra high detail from his R5, which seems to be missing from the Bluejay and Cardinal. Maybe it's my old, tired, bloodshot eyes but it reminds me of my 1DIII and 1DsIII comparisons.

Thanks for the input Frank. The detail is there in the cardinal for sure if you go to Flickr and view large. My DXO seems not to be working with the raw files either, not sure why as it list the R3 as compatible, but it says the files are corrupt so I assume it is not compatible yet? Early shots so I will dial it in. Honestly more concerned with the AF and it is faster than the R5 so far with early testing.

Can anyone confirm if DXO Pure Raw works for them. Mine seems to say corrupt files or already processed. The site says the R3 is compatible.

I tried a DPR studio scene Raw file and it didn't open in my up to date PureRaw.

On the DXO website R3 is not listed as supported in DXO PR nor DPL. DPL lists 2012-12. PR doesn't list a date yet. There is a checkbox next to Raw support but in past experience with the A1 that didn't mean the PR supported it yet. It took a long time till they added A1 support...many, many months. DPL added support in June and DPR in late July. Camera released in March.

Thanks, makes sense now. I thought the check mark near raw support meant supported.

Yeah, I have no idea what that Raw Support column is actually referring to. I think it might actually just mean that the camera can shoot RAW photos.

If anyone has the R3 and R5, I would love to know if you are seeing improvements in highlight recovery/fidelity in high-contrast lighting. The highlight recovery I've seen with other BSI sensors (GFX 100S, Leica SL2-S, Z7/Z7II) seems almost unlimited. The R5 is good, but I have to watch my exposure to protect the highlights more than I have to with the 100S.

Just out of curiosity, what is the small horizontal line on the far right side of some of the images? With the cat, it's just below eye level and over to the right.

Must have something to do with the website as it doesn't seem to be there if you click on the picture and open a new window.

I don't see any horizontal lines on the website.

here it is - only shows here on FM - not at OP link site

ps: I am using a zoom to 200% on the webpage, so not after clicking in the image which opens a new tab

ps2: sometimes it moves around a bit more to the right ( your right, not cat's). Tried a few times and it does not always shows at same location. Actually at one point had a small blue rectangle; I would say it seems to be a website glitch, but I am not an expert

It must be something with the website. I've seen it yesterday in some images, but today that line is gone.
