Sony released today a new firmware for the said lens.

Benefits and Improvements
Improves operational stability when used over a long period of time

Previous Benefits and Improvements
The following benefits and improvements are also included in this update.

Improved aperture response when the lens is attached to the ILCE-9, ILCE-9M2 or ILCE-7RM4 camera models.
Focus Priority can be selected from the Aperture Drive in AF menu when the lens is attached to an ILCE-9 camera (with firmware version 6.00 or later).

Opps, fine print: Looks like this update doesn't apply when using the Sony A1?

Not sure what stability means but I would be delighted if this might improve AF in backlit situations.

@LBJ2 I can confirm that the update works on Monterey.
When reading the benefits do I read it in such a way that the previous V02 update was bringing the improvements for the A9(II), ...
My advice, update the lens regardless of what type of camera you have.

Yes. You are right. I did read that wrong. Updated the GM 24 to v.03 successfully on the A1 camera. But had to revert back to my MBP w/ macOS Big Sur. My Monterey iMac didn't work after several tries. But that could be something wrong with my macOS Monterey install itself particularly since you already confirmed.

I wonder…..I’ve seen lots more flicker doing Timelapse with it…..maybe the aperture control isn’t stable as it could have been causing slight changes that you won’t notice in shots over different light but show up in hundreds of shots under identical conditions

Gotta update and try another run

Mine didn't work at first, then I re-read the instructions and realized I missed the separate step of downloading and installing the driver file (Camera_Driver_2102a.dmg), which requires a restart. After that, went perfectly.

In my case, it's definitely a macOS Monterey install issue on my particular computer. I confirmed that last night after too much detailed investigation. In all the years I've been using mac and updating macOS never had any issues really. My luck ran out this time. It's a small, yet unknown issue but it is affecting my ability to run some 3rd party apps.
